A hilarious moment occurred in a podcast featuring Indonesian comedian Raditya Dika and content creator dr. Tirta. During the casual conversation, dr. Tirta tried to introduce the Phonk music genre to Raditya — but the comedian’s confused reaction left everyone laughing.
Raditya Dika Looks Confused When dr. Tirta Introduces Him to Phonk Music
At first, dr. Tirta enthusiastically explained about Phonk songs that are currently popular among the younger generation, especially Gen Alpha.
“There’s that one, the Phonk song. You know Phonk songs, right?” he asked.
Raditya Dika looked puzzled and replied, “No, what’s that?”
“You don’t know? Phonk... Phonk-Phonk...” said dr. Tirta, trying to give a clue.
Still confused, Raditya repeated, “What’s a Phonk song?”
“Nobody knows? Nobody knows?” dr. Tirta continued, before adding, “You know Montage…”
Raditya, getting even more lost, responded with his signature humor, “Sounds like too many data packages.”
The conversation got even funnier when dr. Tirta explained that Phonk music is trending among Gen Alpha, as it’s often used as the soundtrack for FIFA highlights on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. He even hummed the tune, “Na na na na na na na na naaaaaaaaaaaaa…”
Raditya could only laugh and admit that he had absolutely no idea.
Not stopping there, dr. Tirta tried playing another song to help him recognize the genre — but Radit was still confused. “Bernadya? Is this Bernadya?” he asked spontaneously.
dr. Tirta laughed, “No, bro.”
Raditya chuckled and gave up, saying, “Let’s just go with Bernadya, that one I get.”
Interestingly, dr. Tirta mentioned that Phonk songs are often played in coffee shops because many of them are copyright-free. “Here, listen to this. It’s copyright-free, that’s why coffee shops play it,” he explained.
The moment quickly went viral because it highlighted the musical generation gap between Raditya Dika and today’s youth trends. Generally, Phonk originated from Memphis hip-hop culture in the 1990s and was revived by underground internet music communities.
The genre blends elements of lo-fi, trap, and funk, featuring classic sampling and signature distortion effects. Popular Phonk tracks such as “RIDER,” “METAMORPHOSIS,” and “NEON BLADE” are frequently used in car videos, gaming highlights, and slow-motion edits on TikTok and Reels. Its popularity skyrocketed thanks to its “retro yet modern” vibe that resonates with Gen Z and Gen Alpha listeners.
