Munemasa Katagiri is one of the characters in Captain Tsubasa who worked as a talent scout of the Japan Football Association. He also one of the important figures behind the formation of Japan Jr. national team which was strengthened by Tsubasa and friends.

Those of you who don't pay much attention to Katagiri might not know about what contributions he has made to form Japan strongest team. Katagiri is a very meritorious person because he has gathered various Japanese star players from the Golden Generation including Tsubasa, Misaki, Hyuga, Aoi, and others on their journey to become a team who is capable of competing in world class.

As a former striker, Munemasa Katagiri can find out the potential of various players quickly. His role is important because he helped Tsubasa and his friends to achieve their dreams. He has followed Tsubasa's progress since he was still in elementary school and eventually going to Brazil.

He was the one who convinced Roberto Hongo to help Tsubasa to be one step closer to his dream in the final match at the International Jr. Youth tournament. Without the help from Katagiri, we might not have seen Tsubasa play in the Sao Paulo team and reunite with Roberto.

Aside from looking for talented players, Katagiri also served as an assistant coach. He learned to be a trainer thanks to the direction of Tatsuo Mikami. He has also helped the U-13 Japan team at the U-13 International Tournament which is held in France and Germany as the only representatives from Asia.

Munemasa Katagiri continues to support the development of the team in the Golden Generation. He has approved the match between the Real Japan 7 team which is  intentionally formed to train the Japan Jr. team to become stronger when competing in the second round of the Asian championship.

Katagiri had an accident in the past when he was still playing for Japan team which made him lose his right eye. At that time he failed to bring Japan to the international level. Since then Katagiri had a dream to be able to create the strongest Japanese team which is capable of competing in the world tournament.

He pursued his dream seriously. After working as a talent scout in Japan, Katagiri apparently managed to get the strongest members consisting of Tsubasa and friends. He also felt proud because he was one step ahead to be able to make his dream comes true.

In the future, Katagiri will continue to support the development of Japan strongest team that he has successfully formed. If necessary, maybe he will look for new talented players who can help the Japan team unleash their best potential.
