Netflix confirmed in a "sneak peek" video on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 that it will bring the Pluto anime series based on Naoki Urasawa's manga in 2023, and also confirmed the voice actor and lead studio for the project. The Pluto anime cast members for the Japanese dub are Shinshu Fuji as Gesicht, Yoko Hikasa as Atom, and Minori Suzuki as Uran.

GENCO is producing the Pluto anime series in partnership with Tezuka Productions with M2 handling animation production. In a quote about the Pluto anime provided by Netflix, Naoki Urasawa said, “I commend the courage of all those who have taken up the challenge of making an anime based on PLUTO. I am happy with the birth of this new series to win people's hearts. I hope that now more than ever, Osamu Tezuka's message reaches the world.”

Naoki Urasawa co-author Takashi Nagasaki added, "PLUTO inherits Tezuka's philosophy and not only conveys an anti-war message, but reminds us that there is suffering on both sides... but still, the only answer left is peace."

Supervisor Macoto Tezuka, son of the late Osamu Tezuka, said, “The PLUTO anime is the real deal, and besides being Urasawa's newest work, it is also Tezuka's newest anime. I can't wait to see how this new generation of anime emerges.”

Pluto is a seinen drama genre story by Naoki Urasawa and producer Takashi Nagasaki that re-imagines the world depicted in Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy manga. The series ran in Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine from 2003 to 2009, and spanned eight comic book volumes. The manga has been translated and published in 20 countries including France, the United States and Indonesia.
