Netflix Announced The Witcher Season 2, a Prequel to the Series
Netflix announced that the second season titled The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the origins of the First Witcher
News | 29 July
A few days ago, Netflix already announced that they are planned to produce the second season of The Witcher series. On Tuesday (28/7) Netflix announced that the second season will have The Witcher: Blood Origin as the title and serves as the prequel of the first season.
Reporting from Games Radar, The Witcher: Blood Origin will set 1.200 years before Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer’s adventure on the Continent. This season will focus on the origins of the First Witcher on the Continent.
On the story synopsis, Netflix described the second season as “Blood Origin will tell about the forgotten history over time, the origins of the first Witcher and major events that make the world of monsters, humans, and Elf unite,”
The writer of the series, Declan de Barra promised that The Witcher: Blood Origin will answer novel readers and video game players “What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of humans? I've always been fascinated by the rise and fall of civilizations, how science, discovery, and culture flourish right before that fall. The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher” said de Barra.
Meanwhile, the executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said that the second season will broaden The Witcher’s world that loved by fans. “It’s an exciting challenge to explore and expand The Witcher universe created by [author] Andrzej Sapkowski, and we can’t wait to introduce fans to new characters and an original story that will enrich our magical, mythical world even more,” said Hissrich.
Other Leaks Regarding The Witcher Season 2
On the official announcement, Netflix doesn’t tell when The Witcher: Blood Origin will be aired. But many people predicted that the second season will air in the middle of 2021.
The production phase is yet to be started up to this day. In the middle of June, via the official Twitter account, Netflix announced that the filming will start on August 17, 2020.
The start of the filming process is quite late, remembering that at the end of 2019, Netlfix was planned to start filming in the middle of this March, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this thing is understandable.
