The Nintama Rantaro anime franchise will greet its fans with the presence of a new animated movie entitled Gekijо-ban Nintama Rantaro Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyо no Gunshi (Nintama Rantaro the Movie: The Dokutake Ninja Team's Strongest Strategist) which is planned to be released in December 2024. This movie is adapted from the novel by Kazuhisa Sakaguchi which was released in 2013 with the same title.

Interestingly, this is the first movie in the franchise in 13 years. Fans can feel the excitement of this announcement via the official Twitter account and official website which opened last Thursday, which also revealed the teaser video, interesting visuals, the list of returning players, and the production team involved.

The teaser visual features the figure of Rantaro's teacher, Hansuke Doi, with attention-grabbing text: "White darkness approaches."

Returning cast members include Minami Takayama as Rantarō, Mayumi Tanaka as Sendaru, Teiyu Ichiryusai as Shinbei Fukutomi, and Toshihiko Seki as Hansuke Doi.

Masaya Fujimori, who previously directed the Doraemon movies, will return to helm the project under animation studio Ajia-do, which is also responsible for the television series. Meanwhile, the original author of the novel, Sakaguchi, will be the screenwriter for this movie.

The story in this novel by Sakaguchi focuses on the defeat of Rantaro's teacher, Hansuke Doi, in a battle against Sonnamon, which then causes Zatto Konnamon to take over as teacher at the Ninjutsu Academy.

The announcement of this movie was made during the 30th anniversary of the previous two films in the franchise on February 22nd, which is also unofficially celebrated as Ninja Day due to the coincidence that the number "2" in Japanese is "ni", thus the date 2/22 sounds like the ninja call "ninini."

The previous movie in the franchise, Gekijo-ban Anime Nintama Rantaro Ninjutsu Gakuen Zenin Shutsudo! no Dan, was released in March 2011. Meanwhile, the 31st series of the Nintama Rantaro anime premiered in April 2023, and the 32nd series is scheduled to premiere in April 2024.

Soubee Amako's original ninja comedy genre manga, Rakudai Ninja Rantaro, was the inspiration for the television anime series Nintama Rantaro which first aired in 1993. To this day, the NHK-E channel still broadcasts this 10-minute anime every weekday.

Not only that, this manga also inspired two anime movies and two live action movies, with director Takashi Miike helming the first live action movie. With the presence of this latest movie, fans are invited to celebrate nostalgia with their favorite ninja boy, Rantaro.
