This rumor is based on a leak from popular tech YouTuber, RedGamingTech. According to him, Nintendo's Switch 2 will probably use a MediaTek processor with 2 Cortex-A4 cores, 2 Cortex-A720 cores, and 4 Cortex-A520 cores.

Previously, there was much speculation that the Switch 2 would be equipped with an Nvidia Tegra T239 "Drake" processor. While this is much more advanced than the Tegra The reason is, the Tegra Orin chip, which is the basis of the T239, was launched in 2018. If the Switch 2 is actually released in the second half of 2024, there will be a six year gap between console releases with this processor architecture.

If the rumor is accurate, the MediaTek processor could be a highly anticipated replacement solution. With its performance, the Switch 2 has the potential to compete closely with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S.

In addition to speculation regarding the processor, the leak also highlights the possible specifications of the Switch 2's GPU. As reported by Gizmochina on September 10, the Switch 2's GPU will probably have between 12 and 16 streaming multiprocessors (SM), based on the new Ada Lovelace microarchitecture. Obviously this will be superior to the Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin 32GB which currently has 14 SMs based on the previous generation Ampere architecture. The leak also states that the Switch 2 will likely have 12 to 16 GB of RAM and backward compatibility features for the Tegra X1.
