Nintendo appears to be executing a strategic move ahead of the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for June 5, 2025. According to a recent Bloomberg report, the Japanese gaming giant has significantly ramped up console shipments from Vietnam to the United States, especially in February. Trade data from global analysis firm NBD shows that the volume shipped in that single month surpassed the total from the previous six months combined.

This surge aligns with Nintendo's ongoing logistics strategy to relocate portions of its production out of China to Vietnam and Cambodia during the first Trump administration. This shift aims to shield the company from high import tariffs. Hosiden Corp., one of Nintendo's key assembly partners, has reportedly directed almost its entire output to the U.S. market since the beginning of the year.

The situation has become more favorable as a 46% import tariff on goods from Vietnam has been temporarily suspended for 90 days. Although a universal 10% tariff still applies, this window allows Nintendo to build up its stockpile. Bernstein analyst Robin Zhu told Bloomberg that if the tariff remains at 10%, the current retail price of Switch 2, set at $449.99, is unlikely to change.

However, the pre-order schedule, initially planned for April 9, has been postponed due to uncertainties surrounding trade policies. Nintendo has reaffirmed that the release date for Switch 2 remains unchanged, and new information on pre-orders will be shared later.

Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, also confirmed that a number of Switch 2 units have already arrived in the U.S. and are ready for distribution, indicating that the highly anticipated launch is on track despite the geopolitical and trade-related challenges.
