1. Coach Washijo Hidden Means 

Shiratorizawa’s coach, Tanji Washijo, has a plan by letting Hinata stay at the training camp. He thinks that Hinata is worthless without Kageyama, the setter that can unleash his full potential. But before Hinata is sent back, coach Washijo stops him and offers him to become a ball boy.

It’s impossible for coach Washijo to sent Hinata back home because he thinks that Hinata is interesting. Coach Washijo must have a plan by making Hinata a ball boy. Yeah, he wants to make Hinata see what a ball boy usually sees.

2. Hinata as a Ball Boy

Hinata stayed at the training camp as a ball boy. He stays at the back end and picks up the balls that went out of bound. Hinata himself believes that a ball boy has an advantage that the players don’t have.

Coach Ukai also told Hinata to never underestimate a ball boy. Hinata finally learns what that means. He then stays at the training camp to learn many new things.

3. Time Wasted

Hinata has five days before the national championship. His teammates at Karasuno spend their time training while Hinata is stuck at the first-year training camp as a ball boy.

It might become a problem if Hinata failed to learn new things. He will just waste his time at the training camp instead of training and get stronger.

4. Scrimmage vs. Shiratorizawa

On the second day, Shiratorizawa’s main team lead by Ushijima Wakatoshi comes to the training camp. Coach Washijo invites them on purpose to test the participants’ skills. Coach Washijo wants to see whether the participants can go against his team or not.

A member of the Shiratorizawa recognizes Hinata. He thinks that Hinata will participate in the scrimmage, but in reality, Hinata is just a ball boy. Ushijima then asks Hinata, “Then what are you doing here?” The question motivates Hinata to learn more from his position as a ball boy.
