One Piece in the anime and manga has some differences with the live action version. These differences are already visible in the first season. In the second season, there might be other differences as well. On this occasion, the author would like to discuss the differences between One Piece in the anime and manga and the live action version!

1. Character Introductions

The character introductions in the live action version are somewhat different from those in the anime and manga. In the anime, Luffy is introduced coming out of a barrel. But in live action, he is first shown on a boat.

Then for Zoro, in the anime he is introduced as having been captured by the Navy and tied up in a yard. Whereas in live action, Zoro is introduced when he starts the fight against Mr. 8.

2. Story Plot

From the beginning, the storyline in One Piece live action is somewhat different from that in the anime and manga. In the anime and manga, Luffy steals the Grand Line map from Morgan. While in live action, the map was stolen by Buggy. In addition, there are also several different stories in live action.

3. Luffy's First Meeting with His Crew

Luffy's meeting with Usopp and Sanji may be the same as in the anime and manga, but it is different from his meeting with Nami and Zoro. In live action, Luffy meets Nami in ShellTown. As for Zoro, Luffy met him in a bar. In the anime and manga, Luffy first heard Zoro's name from the girl who gave Zoro onigiri.

4. Lack of Comedy

This one difference is very natural. There are so many comedies in anime and manga that cannot be replicated when One Piece is adapted to live action. Funny jokes that can make our stomachs hurt can only be seen in anime. Even so, the comedy in this live action is also interesting to see and can at least make us smile.

5. Some Characters Seen Early

There are some characters that are shown earlier in One Piece live action. One of them is Garp who has been seen at the place of Roger's execution. Crocodile was also mentioned even though it hasn't been shown yet. There is also Mr. 7 who is shown fighting with Zoro. Whereas in the anime and manga, he was introduced in the Alabasta arc.

6. Darker

The One Piece anime and manga do not feature dark battle scenes like in anime like Attack on Titan. Even opponents who are cut by Zoro's sword are mostly not shown blood. But in live action, Zoro even split Mr. 7 into two parts. Therefore, One Piece live action should probably not be watched by children.

7. Some Characters Don't Appear

Unlike the anime and manga, One Piece live action does not feature some characters in the East Blue Saga such as Johnny and Yosaku, Mohji, Chew, and Momo. Oda himself has explained about this. There is no mention of the reason why they did not appear in live action.

8. Different Conversations

There are several conversations in live action that are not shown in the anime and manga. One of them is the conversation between Garp and Zeff. They talk about the younger generation who are believed to be able to change the world. This difference might be one of the positive points in One Piece live action.

9. A Smarter Luffy

Luffy is famous for his stupid nature because he always acts without thinking. But in live action, Luffy turns out to be smarter. This was shown when he was able to trap Buggy's body parts into a wooden box and use it to defeat him. He was also able to guess the relationship between Nami and Nojiko.

10. Differences in Kokoyashi Villagers

In the anime, Kokoyashi villagers know that Nami is just acting in front of them. They hope that Nami can save Kokoyashi village from Arlong. Whereas in the live action, the Kokoyashi villagers think that Nami is someone who is crazy about wealth and really joins the Arlong Pirates.

One Piece Live Action Season 2 Release Date

Seeing the high enthusiasm of fans, Netflix and also Oda decided to continue One Piece Live Action to season 2. There have even been talks to continue One Piece Live Action for up to 6 seasons.

Although it has been confirmed that there will be a second season of the One Piece live action series, the official schedule has yet to be announced. In an interview with Variety after the success of the first season, Becky Clements (president of Tomorrow Studio) and Marty Adelstein (CEO) revealed that development for the next season has already begun, and there are possible release windows being considered.

Although there is no firm date yet, it is likely that the second season of One Piece live action will air in late 2024 at the earliest. However, it is possible that this release date could be pushed back to 2025 due to the more complicated revision and editing process. According to a report from Screenrant, the second season will likely debut between September 2024 and March 2025.
