Introducing a new lineup is part of ONIC's strategy for the IKL Spring 2025, featuring several fresh and promising talents. Recently, they parted ways with players like LCC2, LuoChen, and R4GE, leaving only Falah and Butsss as the original members still with the team.
ONIC Esports has made quite a mark in the competitive Honor of Kings (HOK) arena. They came close to securing a top 3 finish in the Honor of Kings Championship 2024 (KC) - Indonesia Qualifier, but unfortunately fell short against MAHADEWA, which ended their journey to the next stage.
Butsss and the team also faced challenges during the qualifying rounds of the Honor of Kings Invitational Season 3 (KIS S3), yielding less than favorable results. This has led to a significant roster change aimed at fostering growth within the division.
The question now is whether these changes will benefit ONIC in the IKL Spring 2025. What can we expect from the new players under Butsss' leadership as captain? Let’s dive into the discussion.
ONIC Faces Challenges in IKL Spring 2025, Struggles with Poor Performance in the Opening Week
The Indonesia Kings Laga (IKL) Spring 2025 competition kicked off on Friday, April 11, 2025. ONIC made their debut in the tournament the following day, Saturday, April 12, 2025, facing off against TALON Esports. The lineup for ONIC in this match included Butsss, Rinko, Lexx, Falah, and Skk.
In their matchup against TALON, ONIC appeared to have a fairly even matchup. However, TALON's aggressive tactics put ONIC on the defensive. CipengZ and his team successfully secured various objectives, leading to ONIC's last line of defense being overwhelmed, resulting in a loss for game 1.
Learning from their earlier mistakes, ONIC aimed to bounce back in the next game. They initially took the lead, but TALON skillfully exploited ONIC's vulnerabilities and launched a counterattack against Butsss and his teammates. This counterattack proved effective, marking ONIC's first defeat in IKL Spring 2025.
In their subsequent match, ONIC faced Vesakha Esports, a team that had qualified through the open qualifiers. Against Vesakha, ONIC struggled significantly, suffering early setbacks in the draft phase. Vesakha executed their strategies flawlessly, dominating the objective control.
Although ONIC managed to fend off Vesakha's first assault on their base, the tide quickly turned against them. In the 15th minute, YangYu eliminated Falah, creating a 4v5 scenario. Shortly after, Butsss fell to Omii, further tipping the scales.
With three of Vesakha's players down, Omii pressed the attack on ONIC's base. The turrets fell, and defeat loomed as Vesakha claimed victory in game 1. In game 2, Vesakha maintained their upper hand over ONIC, leading to a challenging match for both teams.
As the game approached the 20-minute mark, neither team was willing to concede. A teamfight erupted at ONIC's base, resulting in Butsss being taken down, and Rinko unable to withstand Omii's assault. One by one, ONIC's players fell, allowing Vesakha to swiftly secure a 2-0 victory.
This defeat certainly casts a shadow over ONIC's prospects in IKL Spring 2025, and they will need to regroup and improve if they hope to turn their fortunes around.
