A shocking result has unfolded at the Swiss Stage of the M7 World Championship, as ONIC Esports have conceded defeat to Myanmar’s representative, Yangon Galacticos. In the Swiss Stage Bracket 1–0 match, ONIC have lost at M7 by a 0–1 scoreline in a crucial game that has immediately affected their tournament trajectory.

As one of the tournament favorites, ONIC have entered the match with high expectations. However, on stage, Yangon Galacticos have displayed a disciplined, fearless, and highly structured style of play. ONIC have lost at M7 not due to inferior mechanics alone, but because several key details have been executed more effectively by the Myanmar side.

The Swiss Stage format with a BO1 system has once again shown its ruthless nature. There has been no room for minor mistakes or prolonged adaptation. In such conditions, a single misjudgment has often decided the outcome, and that scenario has occurred when ONIC have fallen at M7 against Yangon Galacticos.

As a result of this defeat, ONIC have dropped to the 1–1 bracket and have faced a significant challenge ahead. They have been scheduled to meet Team Spirit on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in a do-or-die match to keep their hopes alive at the M7 World Championship.

3 Reasons Why ONIC Have Lost at M7 to Yangon Galacticos

1. Yangon’s EXP Lane Valentina Has Used Sora’s Ultimate More Effectively Than ONIC’s Own Sora

One of the most noticeable factors behind ONIC’s loss at M7 has been the difference in impact from the EXP Lane. Yangon Galacticos have played Valentina in the EXP Lane with exceptional effectiveness, particularly in utilizing Sora’s ultimate ability.

In several key teamfights, Valentina has successfully stolen Sora’s ultimate and has used it with far more decisive timing than Lutpi’s Sora itself. The copied ultimate has instead become Yangon’s primary weapon to turn fights in their favor.

This situation has made it difficult for ONIC to maximize their intended win condition. When a counter hero has delivered greater impact than ONIC’s core pick, defeat in a BO1 match like this has become extremely difficult to avoid. This factor has clearly contributed to why ONIC have lost at M7.

2. Kairi’s Retribution Has Not Been On Point While Playing Leomord

The second reason ONIC have lost at M7 has come from the jungle role. Kairi, who has played Leomord, has not appeared to be at his best, particularly in executing Retribution on major objectives.

There have been several crucial moments where Turtle and Lord objectives have failed to be secured by ONIC despite relatively favorable positioning. These failed Retribution attempts have been immediately capitalized on by Yangon Galacticos to seize control of the game’s tempo.

In a BO1 format, losing just one major objective has been enough to completely shift momentum. Yangon’s map control has become increasingly solid, while ONIC have been forced into a reactive style. This situation has been one of the main reasons why ONIC have fallen at M7.

3. Yangon Galacticos Have Focused on Targeting Sanz

The final factor has been Yangon Galacticos’ clear and deliberate strategy of targeting Sanz. From the early game onward, Yangon have consistently pressured the mid lane and have limited the ONIC midlaner’s room to operate.

When Sanz has been shut down or forced to play defensively, ONIC’s overall performance has dropped significantly. Sanz has been the centerpiece of ONIC’s gameplay, contributing damage output, map control, and mid-game decision-making.

In a BO1 match, such a targeting strategy has proven highly effective. Yangon have given ONIC no opportunity to develop their preferred game flow. When Sanz has been unable to make an impact, ONIC’s loss at M7 has ultimately become unavoidable.

This defeat has certainly been a setback, but it has not fully closed ONIC’s chances. Dropping into the 1–1 bracket has instead become a true test of adaptation and mental resilience. Against Team Spirit, ONIC will have needed to perform with far greater discipline to avoid another loss at M7 and to keep their hopes alive on the world stage.
