The VCT Pacific 2025 Stage 1 tournament is heating up with the Upper Bracket Final and Lower Bracket Semifinal scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025. Four teams are vying for the last spot at Masters Toronto. In the Upper Final, RRQ will take on Gen.G Esports, while Paper Rex faces DRX in the Lower Bracket Semifinal.
Paper Rex has had a challenging journey in the VCT Pacific 2025 Stage 1, experiencing several setbacks. However, they made some bold moves, including a roster change that brought in young talent Patrick "PatMen" Mendoza. This change marked the beginning of their comeback.
Qualifying for the playoff round was a significant milestone for Paper Rex, and they started to turn things around by defeating their opponents one by one. They notably triumphed over T1, the Bangkok Masters champions, in the Lower Bracket Round 1, and also took down the Indonesian team BOOM Esports.

Paper Rex Triumphs Over DRX, Earning Their Spot at Masters Toronto to Take on RRQ
In the ongoing VCT Pacific 2025 Stage 1 playoffs, Paper Rex faced off against DRX in the Lower Bracket Semifinals. The match was a best of 3 (BO3) format, featuring the Lotus, Icebox, and Fracture maps. This was a crucial match for both teams as they aimed to secure their spots at Masters Toronto.
In the first game on Lotus, DRX took the lead by winning the initial pistol round, thanks to standout performances from Free1ng and MaKo. Paper Rex quickly responded by winning the first bonus round, showcasing a balanced competition. However, Paper Rex ultimately took control, finishing the first half with a score of 7-5.
In the second half, Paper Rex secured the pistol round, extending their lead over DRX. Although DRX struggled initially, they managed to catch up in the 17th round. As the game progressed, DRX continued to score points, but PatMen emerged as a key player for Paper Rex, delivering a crucial clutch in the 21st round that brought them to match point.
With just one point needed, Paper Rex rushed their attack towards A, but the round extended as both teams fought hard. DRX adopted a more defensive strategy. In round 24, Paper Rex found themselves in a 3v5 situation, but they eliminated two DRX players.
The Spike was planted at B, marking a pivotal moment for both teams. DRX attempted to breach the site, but Paper Rex successfully eliminated all DRX players, concluding game 1 with a score of 13-11.
As they moved into game 2 on Icebox, DRX once again won the first pistol round. Despite their early lead, Paper Rex fought back and managed to turn the tide, closing the first half at 5-7. They started the second half strong, while DRX appeared to struggle. Paper Rex secured match point, bringing them closer to Masters Toronto. In the final round, MaKo was taken down early, and the Spike was planted without resistance.
DRX found themselves in a tough spot, but they managed to push through to the next round. In round 21, PRX attempted a half buy, but two of their players fell victim to Killjoy's ultimate. Paper Rex was in a challenging 3v4 scenario, yet D4v41 stepped up with two crucial kills, putting DRX under pressure.
BeyN ended up isolated against three PRX players. Ultimately, Jinggg secured the final kill, leading Paper Rex to a flawless 13-8 victory on Icebox, earning them two full points and a spot in Masters Toronto. They will now face RRQ in the Lower Bracket Final.
