1. Hanesaki Ayano

Hanesaki Ayano is the protagonist of Hanebado! and a 3rd year member of the Kitakomachi badminton club. She is the daughter of Hanesaki Uchika and the adopted sister of Connie Christensen, a badminton player from Denmark.

Ayano is a short girl with green eyes and long brown hair who she often ties up with a handkerchief that resembles the handkerchief that her mother likes to wear, although she originally wore a hair tie. At school, she wears the Kitakomachi High School uniform with a red ribbon indicating that she is a first year student.

During practice, she likes to wear a white shirt and dark shorts. In official matches, she wears the new Kitakomachi uniform which is blue with white and black details. Kitakomachi is written behind her back in white kanji. In middle school, she was slightly shorter than her friend Kaoruko.

2. Aragaki Nagisa

Aragaki Nagisa is a 2nd year member of Kanagawa Sports University and former 3rd year member  and captain of the Kitakomachi badminton club. 

Nagisa is a tall girl with brown eyes and short hair of the same color as her eyes. At school, she wears the standard Kitakomachi High School uniform with a blue ribbon indicating that she is a third year student.

In the badminton club, she wears the old Kitakomachi uniform, which consists of an orange shirt and black shorts. She is also shown wearing a red jacket with white and black stripes at the beginning. In official matches, she wears the new Kitakomachi uniform which is blue with white and black details. Kitakomachi is written on her  back in white kanji. During the anime's epilogue, her hair becomes straight, making her look similar to Shiwahime Yuika.

3. Shiwahime Yuika

Shiwahime Yuika is the captain and 3rd year member of the badminton club Fredericia Girls. She is also Misato Saki's childhood friend.

Yuika has purple eyes and long black hair. She usually wears the Fredericia Girls uniform and badminton uniform. When she was little, she was tiny, but already had a pretty great technique. By the time of the anime's epilogue, she had already started wearing glasses.

4. Serigaya Kaoruko

Serigaya Kaoruko is a 3rd year student at the Kounan badminton club. She is the key to Hanesaki Ayano's life.

Kaoruko is a tall girl with pink eyes and long pink hair which she tied into twintails. At school, she wears the Kounan High School uniform. By the time of the epilogue, she had cut her twintails to shoulder length.

5. Connie Christensen

Connie Christensen is a professional badminton player from Denmark and a former first year exchange student at Fredericia Girls. She is Hanesaki Ayano's adoptive sister.

Connie is a tall girl with blue eyes and long blonde hair. She is beautiful and often mistaken as a model. During practice she wears a tracksuit and shorts or a skirt, and in official matches she wears the Fredericia uniform, consisting of a uniform with one side blue and black while the other side has the Danish flag design.

Before getting her uniform, she wore a jersey with a thick and thin stripe and a small Danish flag on the left side. Then, she put on another one piece outfit in light and dark colors. Her casual attire consists of a white sleeveless top, shorts or a skirt, a light jacket, and a hat. When she first came to Japan, she also wore sunglasses.

Before her match with Ayano in the Inter High final, Connie had Yuika cut her hair short to show her determination. Ayano didn't recognize her at first after the simple change.

6.  Wang Lixiao

Wang Lixiao is from China, who had previously disguised herself as Luo Xiaoli. She is currently the number 1 ranked female badminton player. He is also a student of Hanesaki Uchika.

Lixiao has short hair with two strands on the front side of her head that extend down to her shoulders. She is shown to have worn various badminton uniforms all of which have the Chinese flag on them. When disguised as Xiaoli, she uses clips to hide her hair strands and wears a white shirt and skirt. She is short, equal to Ayano at 151cm, making her look younger than her actual age.

7. Hanesaki Uchika

Hanesaki Uchika, is the mother of Hanesaki Ayano. She is a retired professional badminton player and mentor or trainer of Wang Lixiao and Connie Christensen.

Uchika looks like an older version of Ayano, with brown eyes and long hair tied back in a white cloth that resembles the handkerchief that her daughter likes to wear. She wore a white top, black pants, and an orange jacket.

After the events of Inter High, She decided to tie her hair into a ponytail..
