Kumamoto is the hometown of One Piece author, Eiichiro Oda. In 2016, an earthquake of 7.0 Richter scale rocked the place. Oda decided to donate 800,000,000 Yen to his hometown to rebuild his hometown.

After Kumamoto recovered, the governor of Kumamoto, Ikuo Kabashima, used part of the funds to build statues of the Straw Hat crew as a token of his gratitude to Oda. The statues were built in various locations in the said prefecture. This time, it’s the turn for the Nami bronze statue which is just installed.

On July 31, 2021, the Nami statue was completed and inaugurated at Nishihara village, Kumamoto, Japan. After this, only Zoro, Robin, and Jinbei are left. Oda will also build their statue at Kumamoto so that the Straw Hat crew can be completed and become a great tourist attraction.
