Every competitive game, including VALORANT, has its own Ranking System for players to climb in the Competitive 5v5 mode. However, some players are still confused about the Ranking System in VALORANT as it may be different compared to other games.

If you have problems understanding it, be sure to check out this article as we’ll be discussing the details about the Ranking System in VALORANT. It’s definitely something that you need to be aware of before climbing the ranks! Without further ado, let’s get into it.

The Ranking System in VALORANT

For some people who just got into the game, the Ranking System in VALORANT can be a bit confusing. It does share some similarities with other competitive games, but with some differences.

Before a player can jump into a Competitive game, they have to complete 10 Unrated games beforehand. The system’s implemented to avoid trolls and smurfs, which can ruin the entire Ranking System and other players.

After playing 10 Unrated games, the player will have to complete 5 placement matches in Competitive mode to help you find the best rank that suits your level.

It doesn’t matter whether you win or lose these placement matches, as the system makes assessments of your performance. So, even when you ended up losing the games yet you played well, you’ll be placed in a higher rank -- and vice versa.

VALORANT also evaluates the players’ 10 Unrated games before determining the best rank for them.

Ranks in VALORANT

Currently, there are eight ranks in VALORANT:

  • Iron
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Immortal
  • Radiant

The first six ranks have three sub-ranks each that you need to get through to advance to the next rank. Whereas Immortal and Radiant only have one tier each.

To climb the ranks, players have to win matches. However, it all depends on your MMR, performance, and kills that affect your RR when you win games. The more often you get the MVP, the bigger the RR you’ll receive -- meaning that you’ll climb the ranks faster.

Only 500 players per region are able to make it into Radiant, and only the top 1% get into Immortal.

Matchmaking Rating (MMR)

Matchmaking Rating, better known by its abbreviation MMR, is a number that players can’t see in Competitive mode. MMR pits a player with other players within the same pool/level in Competitive.

So, if you’re playing against/with higher-level players, it’s perhaps because you have a high MMR that matches theirs -- or vice versa.

Rank Rating (RR)

Rank Rating (RR), is the number of points you get after each Competitive game. You earn RR points based on your overall performance.

To get to the next tier, you need to earn 100 RR points. The amount of RR points you earn differs:

  • Wins: 10 – 50 RR, 5+ RR for Diamond and above;
  • Losses: 0 – -30 RR, 50 RR max drop for Diamond and above;
  • Draws: 0 – 20 RR, based on performance for Iron to Diamond.

The Differences Between MMR and RR

MMR and RR are two separate scoring systems in VALORANT. If you have a higher MMR than your actual rank, you’ll earn more RR points from wins, and less RR drop from defeats.

If your MMR matches your rank, you’ll earn decent RR points from wins and defeats. And, if you have a lower MMR than your rank, you’ll earn fewer RR points from wins, and more drops from defeats.

Although you can’t see your MMR, you can still kind of guess it. You can increase your MMR points by maintaining a good K/DA and winning more games.

Conclusion

To sum up, VALORANT has a ranking system that’s quite different than other competitive games. Your rank isn’t just based on wins and losses, but also your MMR and performance from each game.

The ranking system in VALORANT is indeed a bit complicated, yet this allows players to play with the others within their level of play in Competitive mode.
