As two great MOBA franchises, League of Legends: Wild Rift and Mobile Legends have their own distinctive characteristics that make their fans love them. After pointing out the similarities between these games, on this occasion, the writer would like to show some of the differences between them. What are those differences? Well, let’s take a look.

1. Roles

Wild Rift

In Wild Rift, we will find five roles that have been set by Riot Games as the developer of the game since its beta version. You will be able to see the indicators or markings 'solo’ and ‘duo' on the lane when the game begins.

It shows that Riot Games wants to educate mobile gamers about the role system borrowed from the PC version of League.

Mobile Legends

As for the roles in Mobile Legends, they seem to be more flexible and depends on the meta. As for this time, they have two forms of meta roles:

  1. 1-2-2 (1 in the Top lane for an offlaner; 2 Mid-laners for a Carry and a Tank; 2 Bot lane for a Marksman and a Support)
  2. 1-3-1 (1 in the Top lane for an offlaner; 3 Mid-laners for a Carry, Tank, and Support; 1 Bot-lane for an offlaner)

Currently, in the competitive scene, the 1-3-1 meta is opted more often by the teams since it’s much more efficient by relying on one Carry, but two solid offlaners are still required to hold down the lanes.

2. Battle Preparations in Wild Rift and Mobile Legends, Runes vs. Emblems

Wild Rift

In terms of battle preparations, in Wild Rift, they have a feature called Runes. With these runes, you can add or enhance your Champions abilities and stats before getting onto the battlefield. For example, by picking the rune "Conqueror", your Champion will have additional Damage against an enemy Champion (thus, perfect for melee Champions).

The runes in Wild Rift are made available for you right when you play the game for the first time. You just need to reach level 10 to unlock all of them and customize them as you please.

Mobile Legends

In Mobile Legends, they have a feature called Emblems. These emblems are quite similar to the runes in Wild Rift but they come in a variety that complements the hero classes. However, these emblems require the player to spend a lot of time grinding to reach the maximum level (level 60).

3. Item Purchases in Wild Rift and Mobile Legends

Wild Rift

In Wild Rift, you’re required to return to base to be able to purchase items. It’s quite similar to the PC version where the players have to go back to base and manage the minion wave by freezing the lane so that the opponent wouldn’t have the chance to push the lane and destroy your turret while you’re still busy getting your items.

Mobile Legends

Unlike Wild Rift, Mobile Legends shares some similarities with most mobile MOBA games that allow you to purchase your items anytime. Some may think that it’s a bit strange, but it actually gives the players a chance to get creative by doing some tricks in the middle of a team fight.

For example, when you’re in the middle of a fight and you find yourself dying, you can get resurrected by pulling off the 'quick buy' trick -- a trick that requires nimble fingers to purchase Immortality (when you are about to die) by selling your other items.

4. Warding Systems in Wild Rift and Mobile Legends

Wild Rift

As a laner, you certainly don’t want anyone to interrupt your laning phase. Yet, the opponents will try their best to disturb you by setting up ambushes, or better known as ganks. Now, in Wild Rift, you can mitigate these kinds of threats by using the wards that you can store up to 2 items.

There are two types of wards in Wild Rift:

  1. Yellow Ward, which provides vision;
  2. Red Ward, which shows you enemy’s Yellow wards and reveals Champions who are using an invisible Skill (camouflage) -- perfect for Junglers and Supports.

Mobile Legends

Unlike Wild Rift, which requires you to use wards to provide visions on the map, Mobile Legends relies heavily on the Tanks and Supports. These roles are crucial to reveal the map and keep the Carry safe.

Aside from relying on those roles, there are certain heroes that have ward-like abilities, such as Selena with her Abyssal Trap (1) and Popol Kupa with Popol's Surprise (3).

5. Gold Farming in Wild Rift and Mobile Legends

Wild Rift

In Wild Rift, you will be introduced to the 'last hit' system like most PC MOBA games where players need to get the last hit/killing blow on the minions to earn gold. While adopting this system to a mobile MOBA, Riot Games still rewards you with a bit of gold if you are near the minions (if you didn’t get the last hit)

Mobile Legends

Contrary to Wild Rift, in Mobile Legends, you just need to get near the minion to earn gold from it. Thus, the players can focus solely on clearing the wave, without having to keep an eye on gold management in the laning phase.

Well, those were the five differences between Wild Rift and Mobile Legends that you probably didn’t know about.
