Josh Cooley, the director of "Transformers One," explains several key differences between "Transformers One" and Michael Bay’s live-action films. This latest series serves as the origin story for Optimus Prime, Megatron, and the beginning of the ancient conflict between Autobots and Decepticons. The conclusion of "Transformers One" sets a new direction for the franchise, as the fate of Cybertron and the Transformers will change forever.

In an interview with Variety, Cooley emphasized two major differences between "Transformers One" and the live-action films. According to him, the fighting styles of the characters and the story's setting are the two significant differences. He noted that the story is set on Cybertron, not Earth. Cooley also aimed to push the boundaries of fight sequences to make them more intense.

“The fact that this film is animated already makes it very different. And because 'Transformers One' is set on another planet, we have something unique. We can take different ideas and make it not look like live action. If you put real people in our film, it would be very awkward because that’s not the goal,” he explained.

“This allows us to simplify some aspects. So, I want to ensure that with our film, the colors really stand out so you can easily distinguish it from the live-action version,” he added.

“Also, the fighting style. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, who also worked on all the live-action films, showed me how they would use motion capture to present some martial arts. But unfortunately, I didn’t want to do that and sought ways to make it look different.”

Cooley’s comments indicate that "Transformers One" and the Transformers franchise are well-suited for animation. Without the constraints of live action, "Transformers One" can better utilize the characters' transformation abilities during battles, while also making the fighters' colors more prominent.
