Soon we will welcome two new consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Yup, Sony will present  PlayStation 5 and Microsoft will present Xbox Series X. Both consoles promise significant improvement from the last generation. But is it all about the specs? Will the specs affect your gaming experience too?

Today the writer will make a comparison between PlayStation5 and Xbox Series X. currently, PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X can still run the latest games at impressive graphics but the next-gen console offers something much better. Take a look at the comparison below.

Specification

Ever since both Sony and Microsoft announced the specs for the respective next-gen console, it’s clear that Xbox Series X has better specs and higher performance compared to PlayStation 5. Its motto as "The World’s Most Powerful Console" is proven, still, PS5 still has great specs and can run a lot of games too.

Design

Speaking of the design, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is great in its own way. The design of Xbox Series X is the first to be revealed, it emphasize that Microsoft made a PC-like console in a smaller size. Unlike the previous-gen, Xbox Series X is a vertical rectangle console. The console comes in all black color variant with a dimension of 30 x 15 cm.

The design of PlayStation 5 (PS5) is more grand and futuristic with a combination of white and a little bit of black in the body with a blue LED. unlike Xbox Series X, the console from Sony can be placed horizontally.

Looking at the design, the curved side of PS5 is the top side and the flat surface is the bottom side when placed horizontally. Since PlayStation 5 is comes in white it might get dirty much faster than Xbox Series X.

Entertainment Services

Not just for gaming, both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X also has an entertainment service. Like the previous-gen, both consoles will have entertainment apps such as Netflix, YouTube, or Spotify. Xbox Series X is rumored to have more entertainment features compared to its competitor.

Exclusive Game

Microsoft has acquired a number of game studios to expand their game library to face PlayStation 5. Some of the Xbox Series X exclusive games are Halo Infinite, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, dan Scorn. While Sony has prepared a number of exclusive games when it’s released such as Demon Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Project Athia, Spider-man: Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, and Horizon Forbidden West.

Membership

Xbox Game Pass is a breakthrough from Microsoft that becomes its main weapon since Xbox One the subscription gives you a number of games. Every month, Microsoft adds a list of new games to the Xbox Game Pass. And you can play the game as long as you are subscribed to the service. Excitingly, a number of triple-A games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Minecraft, Halo 2, Sea of Thieves, and many more are included in the service.

Getting an Xbox Game Pass subscription is simple, you only need to pay US$10 or Rp140 thousand per month for one console and US$15 or Rp211 thousand for the console + PC +Xbox Live Gold. yes, it’s possible to play Xbox Game pass games on PC. you only need to subscribe to the service and you can enjoy hundreds of games.

PlayStation Plus is a membership service from Sony for PlayStation. Since August 2019 the PlayStation Plus membership fee is greatly raised to 1 month Rp89.000, 3 months Rp229.000, and 12 months Rp559.000. The membership service from Sony allows you play free games every month, get early access or demo, exclusive discount, online multiplayer, cloud save, and auto-update.

Price

Both Sony and Microsoft are yet to give further information about the price range for its respective console. Microsoft believed that the Xbox Series X release is still on schedule despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The Head of Xbox Brand Phil Spencer told BBC that the company is looking for a way to make the console cheaper. The reason being the public’s financial situation is full of uncertainty.

Similar to Microsoft, Sony is yet to reveal the price of PlayStation 5. Sony doesn’t want to ruin the sale of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro that’s still the primadonna or ruin the potential market of PlayStation 5.

Recently a rumor circulate that PS5 is sold between nine to 10 million rupiahs in Indonesia. Although it’s still a rumor it still provides an idea about the price range of PlayStation 5.

After Sales

Sony is one step ahead of Microsoft and Nintendo in marketing PlayStation in Indonesia. Previously, Sony officially PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in Indonesia. And now Sony strengthens its position by presenting an official PlayStation retail. So you don’t have to worry about its availability and after-sale in Indonesia.

Different from Sny that shows total support to PlayStation users in Indonesia, Microsoft is not even officially releasing Xbox One in Indonesia. Not only it affects the price of the console and games, but it also affects the availability of other Xbox one products in Indonesia. 

Conclusion

Looking at the specs, features, design, and price, both consoles from Sony and Microsoft have their own benefits. With the specs offered, both consoles can run the latest games at amazing graphics for the next couple of years.  The writer personally feels that it’s still too early for PlayStation 5 to be released since PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X is still capable of running high-quality games for the next couple of years.

Not to mention the game library on PlayStation 4 and Xbox one is still small and the writer feels like both Sony and Microsoft can do more to introduce great games for their respective console. Again, playing games is not all about the maxed-out graphics, but also how you enjoy the game.
