Recently, fans of the MLBB community have been actively debating the issue of taunting, which has sparked some controversy. Why is this the case? Many supporters feel uncomfortable when their favorite team or player is taunted by opponents.
Taunting has been a part of the MLBB scene for quite some time, manifesting in various ways such as verbal jabs, gestures, and even social media exchanges. Over the years, these forms of taunting have become commonplace and are often seen as a normal aspect of the competitive environment.
However, a closer look reveals that opinions on taunting within the MLBB community are becoming increasingly divided. There are intriguing discussions about whether taunting should be accepted in this scene, especially since it tends to be less of an issue in other competitive esports.
The recent incident involving Brusko taunting RRQ and the subsequent fine imposed on SwayLow has intensified the debate surrounding this topic. Talents, casters, and hosts have begun to voice their opinions, adding to the ongoing conversation about the role of taunting in MLBB.
Mirko and Hans Criticize Taunting in MLBB Scene
In a positive light, taunting can be seen as a way for players or teams to express their victory after a match. This behavior often adds excitement and energy to the game, and fans typically enjoy it.
When the team or player they support wins and engages in taunting, it often makes the match more memorable and sparks conversations long after the event. However, it's not uncommon for those who taunt to face criticism or even receive warnings.
For instance, the recent taunting incident involving Brusko and RRQ stirred up some controversy, while EVOS star SwayLow revealed that he was also warned and fined by MPL for taunting the Natus Vincere team. SwayLow faced a hefty fine of IDR 5 million from the organizers.
"Guys, I just taunted yesterday and immediately got a warning and a fine. I was fined IDR 5 million," SwayLow shared during a live stream with Erlan.
Prominent caster Frederick “Mirko” Loho also weighed in on the situation surrounding Brusko and SwayLow. He noted that the reactions to taunting in the MLBB scene seem excessive, suggesting that players may feel restricted in expressing themselves during matches.
“Brusko is getting hate for yelling at RRQ? Swaylow apparently got reprimanded for taunting NAVI. Man don't ever expect players to show emotion or charisma ever again when these are the responses to seeing actual passion & emotions on stage,” Mirko commented on his X account.
Alongside Mirko, MPL PH talent and host Hans Galeria shared similar sentiments about the situation involving Brusko. He raised concerns about whether players felt free to express their emotions during the match.
"Why? Can't players show passion? Can they not show emotion while everything is happening? Do you understand the weight of what is going on?" Hans remarked, as reported by SPIN.ph.
Additionally, Hans believed it was only natural for Brusko to taunt RRQ, given that he had triumphed over them as a former member of the team.
"Mind you he just won a championship. It's not even for clout, it's not even for taunting. It's his pride because he won a championship over a team that dumped him," Hans narrated.
He also pointed out that Brusko's taunting of RRQ had repercussions for his girlfriend, who is part of the RRQ talent, as she faced negative comments from netizens.
"It's just sad and I think from recent memory I think even Brusko's girlfriend is being attacked and she is RRQ ambassador," he stated.
In conclusion, Hans concurred with Mirko that the issue of taunting in the MLBB scene would be challenging, if not impossible, to navigate given the backlash it can provoke.
"Mirko is right, it's so hard to show emotion nowadays especially because you're on the verge of backlash," he concluded.
While there has yet to be an official statement from MPL regarding the permissibility of taunting in the MLBB scene, it is hoped that this issue will not lead to lasting negative consequences moving forward.
