Recently, Pokimane made the headline by getting banned after streaming the animated series Avatar on Twitch. Born in 1996

Pokimane was born on May 14, 1996. This means that she’s already become a renowned streamer at the age of 25. Pokimane, whose real name is Imane Anys, currently resides in Los Angeles, California. The nickname Pokimane is a wordplay on Pokemon, which she combined with Imane (her real name).

A Huge “The Legend of Zelda” and “Pokémon” Fan

Pokimane has always been a gamer since her childhood. She was first introduced to video games by her older brother who was also a massive gamer. Before knowing PC games, Pokimane was really into The Legend of Zelda and Pokemon. Until she eventually got into an online PC game called Endless Online.

In case you haven’t heard of it, Endless Online was a free online game released in 2003 with 2D anime-styled graphics. In this game, you can hunt monsters, customize your characters, and even trade. The game has since ceased to operate in December 2011.

She Began Streaming in 2012

Pokimane isn’t a new name in streaming as she already began her journey in 2012! It’s also when she first got introduced to LoL. Initially, she just began connecting with friends on social media, and she would play with them while using Skype. Later on, her friends began to send her links to female streamers that inspired her.

She began her journey as a streamer playing LoL and reaching Platinum. Then she started to stream more frequently when she was having a hard time in real life, which was also the time she found out that it helped her to go through her problems and gave her joy.

In the end, she started to earn enough money from her live streams, to the point where she could survive financially without having to work part-time.

Dropped Out of College to Become a Professional Streamer

During the second year of her Chemical Engineering course in college, Pokimane earned her first sponsors. Previously, she was only making money from Twitch subscriptions and donations. The newly-earned consistent flow of income made her realize that she could make a career from live streaming. Then, in 2016, she finally decided to drop out of college and move to Los Angeles to focus on her career as a professional streamer.
