ONIC Esports won the MPL ID Season 8 recently. Although the Yellow Hedgehog had to climb from the lower bracket, the team managed to prove its worth against RRQ Hoshi in the Grand Finals, securing the title after a hard-fought 4-3 triumph.

History

ONIC Esports was established on July 26, 2018, and began its journey in the Mobile Legends professional scene by taking part in the MPL Indonesia Season 2. According to MPL Indonesia, ONIC Esports was founded with the ambition of becoming the best esports organization in Southeast Asia.

ONIC Esports’ original Mobile Legends roster consisted of Eiduart, Spade, Watt, Drian, and Fenrir. The team managed to finish third in its inaugural season.

In Season 3, ONIC Esports made history by finishing the tournament without losing. ONIC Esports’ roster in that Season consisted of Udil, Drian, Psychoo, Sasa, and Antimage, all of them was dubbed the “Five Kage”.

Since the MPL ID Season 5-7, ONIC Esports had a turbulent time, but they managed to return to their best form in Season 8.

With Butsss, Drian, SanZ, CW, Kiboy, and Maipan, ONIC Esports won the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL Indonesia) for the second time.

Nicknamed the “King of the Sky”

It’s unclear how the team got the nickname the ‘King of the Sky’, yet most fans believe that it originated from the saying that “Above the sky, there’s still ONIC.” Since then, that nickname has stuck with ONIC Esports.

Defeated RRQ Hoshi in the MPL ID Season 8 Finals

ONIC Esports won the MPL ID Season 8 after a hard-fought match against RRQ Hoshi. Aside from winning the title, ONIC Esports has also clinched a spot to compete in the M3 Mobile Legends.

ONIC Esports didn’t win the game that easily. The reason is, RRQ Hoshi managed to come back from 2-0 behind.
