Boss fights have always been one of the most intense moments in the survival horror genre, including in Resident Evil Requiem. The game features many terrifying monsters created from uncontrolled biotechnology experiments.
One of the unique enemies you must face is Plant 43, a gigantic plant creature that appears at the bottom of the crater in Raccoon City. Although it may look slow, this boss can be extremely dangerous if you don’t understand its attack patterns.
In this guide, you’ll learn the best strategies to avoid its attacks, target its weak point, and defeat Plant 43 efficiently.
Understanding Plant 43 and Its Weak Point
Plant 43 is a giant mutated plant that blocks your path to the ARK facility at the bottom of the Raccoon City crater. The monster has a body resembling a massive flower with a large bulb in the center that functions as both its mouth and the core of its body.
This section is the boss’s main weak point. Inside the bulb is organic tissue that is extremely sensitive to attacks. When you hit this part, the damage dealt is significantly higher than shooting other parts of its body.
During the fight, Plant 43’s mouth usually stays open for quite a long time. This gives players plenty of opportunities to keep firing at it. However, there are moments when it closes its petals to protect its core. If that happens, you can still hit its weak point by carefully aiming between the petals.
Understanding this weak point mechanic is very important. Without targeting its mouth, the battle will take much longer and drain a lot of your ammunition.
Avoiding the Deadly Tendril Attacks
Plant 43’s main attacks come from two large tentacles, or tendrils, extending from its body. It attacks by raising the tendrils into the air and slamming them into the ground.
There are two attack variations you need to watch out for.
- Consecutive Tendril Slam
This is the attack pattern most frequently used by Plant 43. Both tendrils are lifted into the air and slammed into the ground in two quick strikes.
These attacks have slight tracking ability, meaning the tendrils will adjust their direction toward the player. If you stay in one place for too long, you’ll most likely get hit.
The best way to avoid them is to:
- Keep moving around the arena
- Avoid standing still for too long
- Sprint when the tendrils begin to rise
The arena itself isn’t very large, but it’s still wide enough to run around and avoid the path of the falling tendrils.
- Single Slam Attack
The second variation is a single tendril slam. This attack is much easier to dodge because it covers less ground.
Plant 43 usually uses this attack after performing the consecutive slam pattern. You only need to move slightly to the side or step back to avoid it.
Recognizing these two patterns is crucial, since most of the damage players take usually comes from the tendril slam attacks.
Use the Bite Attack as a Counter Opportunity
Besides striking with its tendrils, Plant 43 can also perform a biting attack using its massive mouth. When it does this, its body will lean forward as if trying to devour the player.
Interestingly, this attack can actually become a great opportunity for a counterattack.
To stay safe:
- Keep your distance from the boss
- Don’t stand directly in front of its mouth
- Attack when its mouth is open
When Plant 43 attempts to bite, its mouth opens wide. This is the perfect moment to fire high-damage weapons such as a shotgun or rifle directly into its weak point.
If your aim is accurate, several shots into its mouth can quickly push the fight into the next phase.
Attacking When the Mouth Is Closed
Even though Plant 43 keeps its mouth open most of the time, there are moments when the giant petals close to protect its core.
Many players think they need to wait until the mouth opens again. However, you can still deal damage.
Here’s how:
- Aim for the gaps between the petals
- Use a weapon with high accuracy
- Shoot carefully and precisely
This tactic not only deals damage but can also force the boss to reopen its mouth. Once that happens, you can target its weak point directly again.
This strategy is especially helpful if you want to speed up the fight.
Using Explosive Canisters to Finish the Fight
After Plant 43 takes enough damage, the final phase of the battle will begin.
You’ll know this phase has started when:
- The bulb or mouth of Plant 43 begins to release green liquid
- A truck on the right side of the arena opens
- Several red explosive canisters become visible inside it
These canisters are the main tool for finishing off the boss.
The steps are very simple:
- Keep your distance from the boss
- Aim at the red canisters
- Shoot them until they explode
The explosion will burn Plant 43 and end the fight.
This finishing mechanic is intentionally designed so players don’t need to waste too much ammunition.
Use the Item Crates Around the Arena
The battle against Plant 43 usually happens after several previous encounters that may have already drained your resources.
If you start running low on health or ammo, don’t panic. There are several supply crates in the arena that can help you.
These crates are located in:
- The left corner of the arena
- The right corner of the arena
They usually contain:
- Extra ammunition
- Healing items
- Occasionally crafting materials
However, don’t spend too long opening the crates, because Plant 43 can still attack while you’re grabbing items.
The best strategy is to collect supplies when the boss is performing an attack animation far from your position.
Plant 43 may not be the toughest boss in Resident Evil Requiem, but the fight can still be challenging since it often occurs when the player’s supplies are already running low. The key to defeating it is to keep moving to avoid tendril slams, target its mouth as the main weak point, and use the explosive canisters during the final phase.
By understanding its attack patterns and using the arena effectively, you can defeat Plant 43 faster, safer, and without wasting too much ammunition.
