On May 2020 ASUS Indonesia officially releases a new laptop, ASUS VivoBook S14 (S433). It’s the successor of VivoBook S S430 released last year. In the VivoBook category, VivoBook S is the premium model and comes with the best features in its class, including ASUS VivoBook S14 (S433) 

The laptop is powered by the Intel Core gen 10 processor and a dedicated GPU, Nvidia GeForce MX250. The overall design of the laptop is slim but it packs a lot of performance like the ZenBook model but at an affordable price.

Today the writer was granted the chance by ASUS Indonesia to experience the greatness of VivoBook S14 (S433) in the Dreamy White color variant. Since its introduction, the VivoBook lineup is aimed to have enough performance for multimedia, mobility, and a stylish design at an affordable price. And of course, one of the targeted market range of this laptop is students.

Design

Similar to its predecessor, VivoBook S14 (S433) is designed for the youth. That’s why VivoBook S14 (S433)  comes with a design that allows the user to make any customization he/she wishes. Customization features may be something often left behind, but it’s crucial for the youth that wants to stand out and be different.
 
Starting with the colors, ASUS has a total of four color variants for VivoBook S14 (S433). Those with a colorful but firm personality can use the Gaia Green or Absolute Red. While those who want elegance can choose the Dreamy White or Indie Black. With the available color options, the user can choose their laptop to make VivoBook S14 (S433)  more personalized.

 
At a glance, VivoBook S14 (S433) may look straightforward. At the cover is written “ASUS VivoBook” that’s now located on the side and made the cover appear to have more “empty space” or “negative space.” the negative space is made on purpose to allow further customization on VivoBook S14 (S433).

VivoBook S14 (S433) is targeted for the youth, but that doesn’t mean ASUS abandon the elements of a modern laptop. VivoBook S14 (S433) has a slim and light body at its class. Weighing only 1,4 kilograms with 15,9mm thickness, the laptop is easy to carry around even with a small bag.
 
For the body, the VivoBook S14 (S433)’s body is sleek. Compared to other 14-inch laptops, the body of VivoBook S14 (S433) is smaller. It’s all thanks to the NanoEdge technology Display. The exclusive display technology allows the screen to have thin bezels. Resulting in an 85% screen-to-body ratio and an overall smaller body. The NanoEdge Display made the screen appear wider and more immersive.

The screen of VivoBook S14 (S433) is improved and now the display can show color space sRGB up to 100%. In other words, VivoBook S14 (S433) is a great laptop for content creators, photographers, and video editors. The VivoBook S14 (S433) display also has a wider viewing range, 178 degrees.

Unlike the previous generation, WiFi 6 promises a faster data transfer, up to three times, four times network capacity, and lower latency up to 75%.

 
For its other connectivity, VivoBook S14 (S433)  comes with multiple ports such as USB 3.2 (Gen 1) Type-C that promises faster data transfer. Also, the USB Type-C port can be used to connect VivoBook S14 (S433) with other external hardware that started to use USB Type-C.

Great Performance

VivoBook S14 (S433) is powered by Intel Core 10th Gen. The variant the writer used for this review uses the Intel Core i5-10210U processor with four cores and eight threads. The latest generation processor from Intel is not just powerful but also uses less energy. According to the tests done with Cinebench R20 and PCMark 10, VivoBook S14 (S433) has a high enough score and proven to be great for a daily driver.

Besides its tough performance, VivoBook S14 (S433) has a fast performance in its graphics department considering its small size. It’s all thanks to the NVIDIA GeForce MX250 that is good enough for playing esports and casual games.

Another interesting thing about VivoBook S14 (S433) is that the laptop uses PCIe SSD with 512GB of storage. Unlike other laptops, VivoBook S14 (S433) uses a special SSD from Intel that has 32GB of Optane Memory. Optane Memory is an exclusive technology fro Intel that uses additional memory as a cache. With a cache, the SSD can access most-frequently-used files quicker resulting in faster overall performance.
 
Out of all advantages, VivoBook S14 (S433) has its battery life is the best for a laptop in this class. VivoBook S14 (S433) has a 50Whrs battery, bigger than any laptop in its class. Combined with the Intel Core 10th Gen, VivoBook S14 (S433) has 12 hours on time when tested with PCMark 10 Battery in the Modern Office mode.

Conclusion

VivoBook S14 (S433) is a great mobile laptop with great performance. Using the latest gen processor, GeForce MX250, and M.2 SATA SSD, the laptop is a great companion for the daily driver. The writer can say that it’s comfortable to use the laptop for typing while opening multimedia apps. All of them can run smoothly.

The widescreen and cool display made the writer comfortable looking at the screen for hours. For the audio, VivoBook S14 (S433) has a loud sound so it’s great for listening when you forget to bring your earphone/headphone.
