A Family House as the Background Setting of the Movie

Following the success of the film DreadOut the movie which was released in 2019, Lyto Pictures presents Pamali, a horror film based on the game released by StoryTale Studios entitled Pamali: Indonesian Folklore Horror which was released in 2018. With the tagline “Melanggar Adat, Mengundang Petaka”, Pamali warns us all not to underestimate tradition. The movie screened in theaters starting October 6, 2022.

The story begins with a husband and wife who live in an old house on the outskirts of the city. In some scenes, many pamali (taboos) are violated such as a pregnant woman cutting her nails at night, cutting her hair, and having a fight in the family. It is said that actions that violate taboos and traditions are believed to bring unwanted things, such as the conflict footage in the trailer.

Interestingly, most of the scenes in this film are shot in one location, namely an old house. This house is a family treasure that was inherited to Jaka, the main character. This cursed house becomes a kind of device that overturns Jaka and his wife, Rika.

Taboos Are the Basis of Logic in the Pamali Movie

Pamali, which we know as a myth or taboo, is the basis of logic in the Pamali movie. Various articles of myths and taboos must be obeyed by the characters in this movie. Because once the law is violated, it will result in disaster. That is the conflict in the Pamali movie.

“In the Pamali film, we raised a ban that some people already know (pregnant women are prohibited from cutting their nails and cutting their hair at night) as an example to make it easier to understand the consequences that arise from violating existing myths or taboos.” Said Andi Suryanto the producer of the Pamali movie and the CEO of LYTO Pictures at the Press Screening of Pamali, Friday (30/9/2022).

Pamali Movie Managed to Unlock the Next Level of Terror

Pamali (2022) is a horror film from the production house LYTO Pictures. Directed by Bobby Prasetyo. The movie stars Taskya Namya as Nenden, Marthino Lio as Jaka, and Putri Ayudya as Rika. Rukman Rosadi as Dadang, Unique Priscilla as Lilis, and Fajar Nugra as Cecep in supporting roles.

Watching Jaka the main character solve his problems in the movie is like watching him doing tasks in the game, such as collecting items and performing rituals. If the main character successfully completes the task and achieves the achievements, then he will clear the stage.

The scary thing is, while trying to do a task, Jaka is disturbed by a wandering spirit in the form of a kuntilanak. With such an execution, the Pamali movie still retains the source material in the movie.

Interestingly, Inayma, who is a gaming influencer, was also involved in the production process of the Pamali movie. Gamers play in the film adaptation of the game, and the profile feels right. However, Inayma's role is relatively short in the film. Even so, her presence managed to unlock the horror to the next level.

Until the end, the Pamali film has opened its cinematic universe to a wider and more sinister realm. Of course, the story idea comes from the game itself. Interesting, right?
