GTA Online Karin Calico GTF Review: Do Tires Affect Car Performance in GTA Online?

Although it’s not that significant, the difference between the types of tires is quite noticeable!

There are three types of tires in GTA Online: Sport, Tuner, and Off-Road. If you pick any of them for daily use, the grip of these types won’t be that distinguishable. With the Los Santos Tuners DLC, Rockstar added new handling mechanics for low-grip tires, which gives you better performance for drifting.

With the arrival of the low-grip tires, I end up getting curious about whether the three types of tires offer different performances. So, I did some tests to find out the differences between these tires.

Test 1: Stock Market Crash Asphalt Terrain

The first test I conducted was set at a race event called the Stock Market Crash. I chose this track as it has a lot of sharp turns, straights, and even some bumpy roads. Thus, it’s very suitable to make an assessment of the overall performance of a car on this track.

I picked the new Tuners DLC car, the Karin Calico GTF, complete with all of the possible upgrades to crank up its performance. Karin Calico GTF is basically a rally car, yet it’s still quite reliable on asphalt given that it has an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) drivetrain.

From the 20 laps I did, the Tuner tires had the worst time with the best lap of 57.799 seconds. However, the Tuner tires offer a great grip with the Karin Calico GTF.

But still, the Sport tires had a better time with 57.600 seconds. Yet Sport tires feel a bit drifty compared to Tuners, but it has more responsive traction when coming out of corners.

Tuner: 57.799 seconds

Sport: 57.600 seconds

Off-Road: 57. 215 seconds

Of the three types of tires, the best lap went to Off-Roads with 57.215 seconds. Although it’s not made for asphalt terrain, Off-Road tires offer more stability compared to the other two.

I didn’t experience any minor disturbances such as sliding nor wheelspin when making turns at high speed. So, overall, Off-Road tires are the best set for Karin Calico GTF on asphalt terrain.

Test 2: Rally-Asphalt Mix Terrain

For the second test, I made a custom race of an asphalt-dirt mix. I did another 20 laps with each type to record the best lap. The result isn’t that different than the first one.

With the Tuners, I managed to finish the lap at 51.266 seconds. It’s just a tad bit worst than when I used Sport tires, with 51.215 seconds.

Interestingly, the Off-Road tires managed to outperform the other two with a record time of 50.854 seconds. While the difference isn’t that significant, when it comes to handling and traction, the Off-Road tires feel much better on a dirt track.

Tuner: 51.266 seconds

Sport: 51.215 seconds

Off-Road: 50.854 seconds

Aside from that, there’s a noticeable difference when I used the Off-Road tires. When passing through bushes, my Karin Calico GTF could still go at high speed without me having to release the gas button. It’s definitely felt different with the Tuners or Sports as I instantly lost balance when passing through the bushes.

Karin Calico GTF Review

Overall, the Karin Calico GTF is probably one of the best cars in the Los Santos Tuners DLC. Due to the All-Wheel Drive drivetrain, Karin Calico offers high stability on all terrain.

It performs undoubtedly well given that it has excellent acceleration and speed. However, Karin Calico GTF also comes with a drawback, which probably makes it not suitable for some players. When it comes to handling, Karin Calico GTF is quite light and easy to control. But when you make turns at high speed, this car tends to lose control.

In addition to that, Karin Calico GTF doesn’t have the best brakes. Thus, you need to take a wider breaking point before you make turns with this car.

Karin Calico GTF Speed Glitch

With the Los Santos Tuners DLC, Rockstar also added some new features such as low-grip tires and lowered stance, which will affect the performance of the car. So, in general, these two features can make your car faster, but they also make the handling and braking feel clunkier.

If you use them on other cars, the differences won’t be that significant. Yet on Karin Calico GTF, they boost its max speed from 120 mp/h to 140+ mp/h. Even during the test, it actually surpassed the Ocelot Pariah, which is the fastest car in GTA Online.

It’s quite easy to exploit this glitch. First, you need to modify the car at the Los Santos Car Meet mod shop, then pick the Low-Grip Tires enhancement for $500. After that, you can set your vehicle stance to lowered.

But keep in mind that this glitch only applies to the speed of the car. The handling and braking of the car will also be much more noticeable when you use this glitch.

When I ran the test on the Stock Market Crash track, I ended up getting a worse record with 59 seconds (instead of 57 seconds). Therefore, this glitch seems to just work on straight tracks.
