RRQ Chen has emerged as the latest addition to RRQ Hoshi’s lineup in MPL ID Season 15. The player had previously spent a considerable amount of time developing within RRQ Sena in the MDL.

Many fans were unfamiliar with Chen, especially since his inclusion in the MPL roster came as a surprise—just as Hazle was unexpectedly loaned to Aero Esports in Malaysia.

Due to MPL ID’s new rule requiring each team to have at least six active players on their roster, Chen was ultimately chosen to fill that vacant spot.

At first, many assumed Chen had been brought up just to fill a slot and warm the bench, especially with Khezcute having already decided on RRQ’s Best Five for the playoffs.

Even when Chen was given a chance to play against Dewa United Esports, he didn’t immediately shine. RRQ lost that series 2-0. However, the result didn’t impact their standings since the team had already secured an upper bracket spot.

Interestingly, Khezcute later made a revealing statement. He clarified that Chen had not played simply because RRQ’s position was safe, but because the player had proven himself in scrims.

RRQ Chen’s Talent Is the Real Deal

While it might be true that Chen initially filled a vacant roster slot, he didn’t arrive without merit. In fact, the young player had shown strong performances behind the scenes during scrims, which convinced the coaching staff of his potential.

As a result, Khezcute gave him the opportunity to debut against Dewa United—not as a formality, but as a reward for his efforts.

"After we beat AE, I decided to field Chen regardless of whether we had secured the upper bracket or not," said Khezcute in an RRQ video.

"Because in scrims, Chen has been insanely good—really skilled and incredibly strong. That’s it. So regardless of the circumstances, Chen was always going to play that match," the coach added.

Chen likely just needs more time to grow and adapt to the MPL stage. With continued exposure and experience, his potential will begin to surface even more clearly.
