The remake version of the Rurouni Kenshin anime made its debut on Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block and other platforms on July 6th 2023. It is estimated that the anime will run for two cours, with the second cour starting on October 5th 2023.
Crunchyroll is streaming the series alongside its English dubbed version. Rurouni Kenshin Remake is a re-adaptation of the hugely popular main manga series.
Soma Saito stars as Kenshin Himura, and Rie Takahashi fills the role of Kaoru Kamiya. Taku Yashiro plays Sanosuke Sagara, while Makoto Koichi provides the voice for Yahiko Myojin. Yuma Uchida and Saori Ōnishi provide the voices for Shinomori Aoshi and Megumi Takani, respectively. Satoshi Hino played the role of Hajime Saito.
The anime was produced by Hideyo Yamamoto of LIDEN FILMS, with Terumi Nishii as the character designer, and Hideyuki Kurata as the screenwriter. Yu Takami is in charge of the music. The first opening theme song, "Hiten," was sung by Ayase and R-Shitei, while the first closing theme song, "Kissaki" (Edge of the Sword), was performed by Reol.
Masaki Suda and the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra performed the new opening theme song, "Rurou no Katashiro," and KID PHENOMENON performed the new closing theme song, "Sonzai Shomei" ("Existence").
Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc, by Watsuki and his wife Kaoru Kurosaki, was launched in Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine in September 2017. The manga went on hiatus in December 2017 after Watsuki was charged with possession of child pornographic material, but the manga story resumed in June 2018.
Despite the controversial events, Rurouni Kenshin remains an iconic work. The manga was first published in 1994 and has been adapted into an anime series, anime movie, OVA project, live action movie, and stage show by Takarazuka Revue.
