In a column of SBS One Piece volume 59, there is some interesting stuff, one of them is a theory that says Kuma will join the Straw Hats. A fan has found some interesting stuff regarding the Devil Fruits of the Straw Hats crew and asked Oda about it. 

The fan said that if the Straw Hats’ Devil Fruit users are referred to by the numbers representing their names, they will make the number 1-10. It’s because the names of the Devil Fruits they ate are representable by numbers in Japanese.

Luffy - Gomu Gomu (5.6.5.6)

Chopper - Hito Hito (1.10.1.10)

Robin - Hana Hana (8.7.8.7)

Brook - Yomi Yomi (4.3.4.3)

Of all those numbers, only 2 and 9 are not mentioned. He then emphasized that the one who ate the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi (2.9.2.9) is Bartholomew Kuma. So, the question is will Kuma be joining the Straw Hats?

Oda who read the explanation was shocked as if he wasn’t aware of that. It’s just too much of a stretch to be a mere coincidence. Oda then replied to the question with a “NO COMMENT!” It seems that he just doesn’t want to answer such a brilliant question.

Come to think of it, there’s a possibility for Kuma to become a Straw Hat. The main reason is Luffy. Kuma would be glad to be able to help the son of his best friend, Dragon, as he did in the Thriller Bark and Sabaody arcs. However, the theory’s not yet proven as it’s still unclear who’s gonna be the next Luffy’s Nakama after Jinbei.
