In the SBS One Piece volume 99, a reader asked; “About Otoko's mother, or in other words, Yasuie's wife, what kind of person is she? Is she still alive?” Oda replied with touching words.

“In the past, Yasuie was once married and had no children. After losing his wife, he remained single. After losing to Kaido and surviving, he found a baby in the town of Ebisu, and the baby was Otoko. Until now, Otoko didn't know that they weren't related by blood.”
