Being a ninja is a legit job in Naruto’s world. By working as a ninja, that person will receive a salary. Naruto's already a professional ninja since he was young, and he had done various official missions given to him. From that, Naruto’s salary based on.
Then, how rich Naruto is? Take a look here!
Total Missions Cleared by Naruto
According to the official Naruto: The Secret Scroll of Fighting published by Shueisha and translated by Elex Media Computindo for Indonesian readers, Naruto has already done 16 official missions: 7 D-rank missions, 1 C-rank mission, 2 B-rank missions, 6 A-rank missions, and 0 S-rank missions. Sadly, those information doesn’t scope all missions from Naruto Shippuden because it only based on Part I (also, he later leaves his village for three years to train under Jiraiya, surely he doesn’t take any missions).
If we don’t count filler episodes and taking only the official arc from the manga, then Naruto at least once have done two high-rank missions, and the two are speculated to be S-ranks: Kazekage Rescue Mission and Akatsuki Hunting Mission (when fighting Kakuzu).
Based on the limited data above, then Naruto has done 7 D-rank missions, 1 C-rank mission, 2 B-rank missions, 6 A-rank missions, and 2 S-missions.
A Ninja’s Salary According to Missions
Meanwhile, how to count a ninja's salary? It’s simple: according to Naruto: The Secret Scroll of Fighting, Masashi Kishimoto himself already tipped how much money received by a ninja team every time they have cleared a mission!
First, we're counting the conversion, 1 Ryo (Naruto’s in-world currency) is equivalent to 10 Yen (¥10), and 10 Yen equals to Rp155. Then we take a look at a ninja’s salary based on the mission’s rank:
- D-rank missions: from 5.000 to 50.000 Ryo (Rp7.800.000 - Rp78.000.000);
- C-rank missions: from 30.000 to 100.000 Ryo (Rp46.000.000 - Rp155.000.000);
- B-rank missions: from 80.000 to 200.000 Ryo (Rp124.000.000 - Rp480.000.000);
- A-rank missions: from 150.000 to 1.000.000 Ryo (Rp234.000.000 - Rp1.558.000.000);
- S-rank missions: at least 1.000.000 Ryo (Rp1.558.000.000).
That’s so big, right? But Kishimoto is not too explicit saying if those are for one’s salary, remembering that one team usually consist of four members, then, there’s a chance that the money received by one team later divided into four people -- and we don’t know other variables, like the team leader, will gain the biggest salary or other team members get a reduction because of underperformance, and many others.
How Much Naruto’s Salary Based on the Existing Data?
Putting aside those variables, we can assume how much money that Naruto once received from his work as a ninja. But the results will be divided into two versions:
- Maximum income/ best scenario: not divided into four, taking the largest range per rank.
- (7 x 60.000.000) + (1 x 120.000.000) + (2 x 240.000.000) + (6 x 1.200.000.000) + (2 x 1.200.000.000)
From this ‘best’ scenario, then for one year, Naruto once had a salary for Rp10.140.000.000 -- or Rp7.740.000.000 if excluding two S-rank missions which he took part in on Shippuden.
- Minimum income/ worst scenario: divided into four, taking the smallest rank per rank.
- (7 x [6.000.000/4]) + (1 x [36.000.000/4]) + (2 x [96.000.000/4]) + (6 x [180.000.000/4]) + (2 x [1.200.000.000/4])
From this ‘worst’ scenario, then for one year, Naruto once had a salary for Rp937.500.000 -- or Rp337.500.000 if you don’t count two S-rank missions which he took part in during Shippuden. It makes sense that his Gama-chan wallet always looks full.
