Sony finally debuts the new PlayStation 5 (PS5) controller, DualSense. Unlike the previous generation, the PS5 is not called DualShock, but DualSense. The new controller has several new features that will come with PS5. according to the information shared by Sony through the PlayStation blog, DualSense has a design and features that help PS5 users.

1. Design 

The thing that stood out about the DualSense controller is its design. DualSense comes in two-tone colors, combining white and black. The combination made the controller looks more elegant in comparison to the past controllers. The light bars are moved to the left and right sides of the touchpad. Sony claimed that the design gives a slightly larger feel.

2. Comfortable Grip

No one can deny that the Xbox One controller is the most ergonomic controller to ever exist. The controller from Microsoft is said to have high quality and give comfort to the hand. This is what Sony is doing to the DualSense controller. So when the controller is announced, many stated that the grip of DualSense is similar to Xbox One controller.

With a grip that’s identic to Xbox One controller, Sony also adds a new feature called Adaptive Trigger. This feature allows the developers to develop a program that will simulate a more accurate action. The example of Adaptive Triggers usage is when gamers are playing games they can feel the sensation of pressing on the throttle. Adaptive Triggers actually exist on Xbox One controller.

3. Haptic Feedback

The mainstay technology of the DualSense controller is the Haptic Feedback feature. This feature doesn’t replace the Rumble feature of DualShock. But the feature will improve the experience when using DualSense to a higher level. Haptic Feedback is not a new feature, this feature exists in Nintendo’s Joycon controller for Nintendo Switch called HD Rumble. HD RUmble allows the user to feel movement, shape, and distance between object in front of the player. It can even move objects in the game by moving the controllers.

4. Rechargeable Battery

Like the previous generation, the DualSense controller still has a rechargeable battery. But, Sony is yet to reveal the power and battery capacity of the controller. This feature is what makes DualSense a slight advantage against the Xbox Series X controller that uses regular battery.

5. Supports USB Type-C

Many smartphone users today use USB-C port and it’s what made Sony apply the technology to DualSense. As a result, players can use the Type-C cable from their smartphone to charge DualSense.

6. Complete with a Microphone

The other interesting thing about DualSense is that this controller is equipped with a microphone. The user can talk without needing an additional microphone like in DualShock 4. But many gamers are asking if DualSense still has a 3.5mm audio jack port like DualShock 4. Answering that question, Aoki Toshima, Playstation Product Manager, DualSense will certainly also come with a 3.5mm audio jack. This means users can still use the same audio device that you currently use in DualShock 4.

7. No More Share Button

The Share button on DualShock 4 allows the user to share an in-game clip or screenshot. The content can be shared via Facebook, Twitter, or Youtube. But after the partnership with several social media is over, Sony replaces the “Share” button with a “Create” button. The name may be different, but the function is still the same. Players can take pictures and record their gameplay. But it’s still unknown whether the content can be shared on social media directly or not.
