In a vast world of Naruto universe, a clan is a group of ninjas that live with the other ninjas with the same power and attributes. All ninja clans in Naruto generally has a tremendous yet mysterious power that they use to fight other ninja clans. The reasons for fight are varied, from the other ninja clan feel threatened, seeking the opponent’s power, or even one clan feels more superior due to their abilities.

Here are nine ninja clans in Naruto that once faced a crisis or their known family only survived by a few people to the point it considered already or almost extinct!

9. Kaguya Clan

A clan that was known for their brutality in combat. Very bloodthirsty, they didn’t have any strategies or tactics when engaging in battle, only attacking and slaying everyone in their path. They were extinct when they were attempting to attack Kirigakure. They didn’t stop attacking to satisfy their thirst for blood even though they were outnumbered and surrounded.

As the descendant of Kaguya Otsutsuki, some of the members were born having kekkei genkai Shikotsumyaku at birth; the ability to control bone’s growth and sturdiness to the point they were feared by the other Kaguya clan members. Kimimaro did not only serve as the last one known to have Shikotsumyaku, but also the last one of his kind -- until he died due to a mysterious disease.

8. Yuki Clan

Based on Land of Water, their Ice element kekkei genkai was feared because often used during the war in the country, resulting in the owner of this kekkei genkai being chased and hunted. Even the memory of Yuki clan’s power is still remembered until the Fourth Shinobi World War occurs and many of the warriors said as the ‘cursed power’.

Haku and his mother were only a few known originated from the Yuki clan. It’s unknown to the rest of the family, but it can be assumed that the others were slain or hide their real identity for a peaceful life.

7. Iburi Clan

A seclusive clan that lived underground in the Land of Fire. They had a unique kekkei genkai that allows all the members to turn into smoke; but they could not control their power perfectly, and when they’re in the smoke form, they will be vulnerable to gales, causing them to disperse permanently and die.

Orochimaru later discovered the Iburi clan and use the Cursed Seal to control the transformation as well as using them as an experiment. In the end, Orochimaru slew all of the clan members in pursuit of the source of the kekkei genkai. Only a girl named Yukimi survived after rescued by Yamato and Kakashi.

6. Kohaku Clan

A minor clan that lived in a village near the border of Land of Fire and Amegakure. All of the villagers, including the Kohaku Clan, were slain by Furido 4-Man Team. After that, all the deceased members later resurrected as a zombie by Furido and his men to attack Konohagakure.

5. Chinoike Clan

During the Warring States period, the Chinoike clan was one of the famous mercenary ninjas from Land of Thunder. But due to political issues, the government of the Land of Thunder hired the Uchiha clan to get rid of them away from the Land of Thunder to the Valley of Hell at the Land of Hot Water; a location that considered inhabitable. But they managed to survive by drinking the blood red-colored water and consuming limited resources.

Their peaceful life shattered when all of the clan members argued whether they have to avenge the Uchiha clan for their banishment. Within one night, their argument turned into a massive conflict, wiped themselves out, with only En Oyashiro and his daughter, Chino, survived.

Chinoike clan had the dojutsu kekkei genkai named Ketsuryugan, that allowed them to launch a strong genjutsu as strong as Sharingan and able to control liquid with high-level of iron in it.

4. Jugo’s Clan

Jugo’s clan’s name and origins are unknown. But they were people who could absorb natural energy naturally and could produce a certain liquid to transform a part of their body. But due to the energy absorption is hard to control, the clan members often get mad.

So far, only Jugo is known to have this ability. It can be presumed that the other members died due to killing each other until Jugo seeks for Orochimaru to control his power. According to Kabuto Yakushi based on Orochimaru’s research, their power is based on Ryuichi Cave. 

3. Senju Clan

Already active since the Warring States, the Senju and Uchiha were the founder of Konohagakure and indirectly involved in the hidden village system. A descendant of Asura Otsutsuki, Hagoromo’s youngest son, inherited the 'Hagoromo Body' that granted them a massive chakra and strong soul.

It's different than other ninja clans who are famous for their kekkei genkai or their hiden technique, the Senju clan instead could master various techniques perfectly. Only one of their member, Hashirama Senju, was the only natural Wood element master known to this day.

After the death of Hashirama and his brother, Tobirama, only Tsunade who is known to be the direct descendant of the Senju clan. It’s unclear with the other member of the group, as they might be scattered after losing their great leader like Hashirama and Tobirama who had the power and leadership to unite the clan.

2. Uchiha Clan

Uchiha is the descendant of Indra Otsutsuki, Hagoromo’s firstborn son. They inherited the 'Hagoromo Eyes': the dojutsu Sharingan as well as spiritual energy and high level of chakra flow. But they had to pay the massive power they had by receiving the Curse of Hatred, a negative emotion that activated when losing people dearest to them.

After the Uchiha clan who lived in Konohagakure was slain to prevent a coup, the clan only leaves Sasuke Uchiha as the sole survivor.

1. Uzumaki Clan

The distant relative of the Senju clan who lived in Uzushiogakure village and had similar abilities; a strong soul and massive chakra flow. But it’s different than Senju clan, Uzumaki people were more specialized in fuinjutsu or sealing techniques. Sadly, their expertise made them targeted by other ninja villages and in the end, destroying Uzushiogakure due to being attacked by many ninjas due to their powerful fuinjutsu.

A few of the surviving members scattered to the ninja world. Currently, the clan is survived by Naruto Uzumaki, Boruto Uzumaki, Himawari Uzumaki, and Karin.
