Mask Girl' is a comedic thriller drama adapted from a webtoon that has a dark and horrifying storyline. Directed by Kim Young Hoon, this drama stars Ko Hyun Jung, Ahn Jae Hong, and Yeom Hye Ran. The series consists of seven episodes and was released simultaneously on Netflix on August 18, 2023.

Synopsis of Mask Girl

Mask Girl tells the story of a character named Kim Mo Mi, an ordinary office worker who lacks confidence in her appearance. Kim Mo Mi always dreamed of shining on stage, but as time went on, she felt her appearance was unattractive and unappealing. To channel her desires, Mo Mi leads a different life every night as a live streamer, always wearing a mask.

She receives abundant love as a streamer, yet her maskless, everyday life is filled with unhappiness. However, things take a turn for the worse when Mo Mi's real face is exposed. Kim Mo Mi even underwent surgery on her face and began to live the life she wanted. Yet, it still did not bring her happiness.

With her new face, Kim Mo Mi still finds herself embroiled in a series of unfortunate events, leading her to be imprisoned for her crimes.

The series chronicles Mo Mi's lengthy journey in addressing her problems. Mask Girl is not just a thriller; it also touches upon various social criticisms and themes of revenge. The character Kim Mo Mi in the Korean drama Mask Girl is portrayed by three different actresses. They are Nana, Go Hyun Jung, and a newcoming actress, Lee Han Byul, whose involvement was kept a secret.

The drama also features other familiar South Korean actors and actresses beloved by Korean drama enthusiasts, such as Ahn Jae Hong and Yum Hye Ran.

Characters and Cast of the Mask Girl

1. Lee Han Byeol

This newcomer actress is entrusted to portray the main character, Kim Mo Mi, during the early part of the story. This character is paramount and plays a vital role in the Mask Girl drama series. Director Kim Yong Hoon mentioned he auditioned about 1,000 people before finding Lee Han Byeol, whom he deemed intelligent and calm in demeanor. Importantly, she closely resembled the Mo Mi character from the Webtoon.

2. Nana

In the Mask Girl drama series, Nana plays Kim Mo Mi who has undergone plastic surgery to assume a new identity. This iteration of Kim Mo Mi is different from the previous one. After the surgery, Kim Mo Mi transforms into a captivating stage performer.

3. Go Hyun Jung

Go Hyun Jung is the last actress to portray the character Kim Mo Mi. This version of Kim Mo Mi is quite distinct. She becomes prisoner number 1047 and navigates a life filled with challenges behind bars.

4. Ahn Jae Hong

The character portrayed by Ahn Jae Hong is an office worker, a colleague of Kim Mo Mi. Joo Oh Nam is the first person to realize that Kim Mo Mi is the masked woman, which leads him to become obsessed and hallucinate about her.

5. Yeom Hye Ran

The character played by Yeom Hye Ran is Joo Oh Nam's mother, named Kim Kyung-ja. This character is a mother trying to find her missing child.
