EVOS Playoff Scenario for MPL ID Season 15

EVOS playoff scenario really difficult.

Once again, EVOS have found themselves in a position where playoff qualification scenarios must be drawn up—something that would have seemed unlikely to most people, especially considering the major roster moves and strong start they had shown early in the season.

Now, EVOS have dropped to 7th place with a 5–8 record—an undeniably difficult position. Their chances of reaching the playoffs have grown increasingly slim, and the pressure has never been greater.

At first glance, their standing may still look manageable. But not in the context of MPL ID Season 15. The competition has been incredibly tight, and all the teams above EVOS have remained in far stronger and more favorable form.

EVOS have only three matches left in the regular season. With their current poor form, pulling off a full recovery has not been a simple task.

So what does the path to the playoffs look like for EVOS? To be honest, the possibility still exists—but it is razor-thin, especially considering that the teams they need to overtake have been performing well.

EVOS’ Playoff Qualification Scenario

The main scenario for EVOS to reach the playoffs has relied heavily on other teams dropping games.

First and foremost, EVOS must have won all of their remaining three matches—against ONIC, Dewa United Esports, and NaVi. If they have done this, they will have finished the regular season with an 8–8 record.

After that, they must hope that at least one or more teams above them—such as Geek Fam, TLID, Bigetron Alpha, Alter Ego, or ONIC—have ended up on a losing streak. Unfortunately, many of these teams have had to face each other, meaning wins among them are inevitable.

As of now, all teams above EVOS have already reached at least seven wins. That means if any of them have secured even one more victory, they’ll hit the 8-win mark. If multiple teams have reached nine wins, EVOS’ 8–8 result would no longer be enough.

Tiebreaker Complications

Let’s say both Geek Fam and TLID have ended with 8–8 records as well, after suffering three straight losses. For EVOS to leapfrog them in the standings, they would need to win all remaining matches with 2–0 scorelines, due to an even head-to-head (1–1) with each of those teams.

A more favorable route would be for Bigetron, Alter Ego, or ONIC to collapse entirely and fail to reach eight wins. Among these three, ONIC would be EVOS’ best bet, as EVOS have beaten ONIC 2–0 in their first meeting. Against Alter Ego, EVOS have lost both legs. Against Bigetron, they have split the series—winning one 2–1 and losing one 2–1.

A Tough Pill to Swallow

EVOS have truly backed themselves into a corner. Qualifying for the playoffs is now an incredibly difficult task, and it's largely the result of their own undoing—wasting winnable games earlier in the season and dropping crucial points in clutch moments.
