Directed by Upi Avianto and produced by MD Pictures, Sorop was officially released on December 19, 2024. The story follows two siblings, Hanif and Isti, who return to their childhood home in a remote village after learning that their uncle, Pakde Khair, is in critical condition. However, upon arrival, Pakde Khair mysteriously dies right in front of them.

Following his death, Hanif and Isti begin to experience strange and disturbing occurrences—particularly during the sorop period, a time just before sunset (magrib) which, in Javanese belief, is when supernatural beings begin to roam.

They discover that Pakde Khair had once undertaken a mystical fast known as puasa sorop, a ritual in which he broke his fast with grave soil. The purpose behind this practice is highly unusual and shrouded in dark secrets that the siblings must uncover.

With its tense atmosphere and strong local elements, Sorop delivers both psychological and mystical terror. Hanif and Isti must race against time to unravel the mystery behind the sorop ritual in order to save their own lives.
