The Korean film The Old Woman with the Knife is set to hit theaters across South Korea on April 30, 2025. Before its official release, the movie already made waves at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), where it held its world premiere on February 16.

Adapted from the acclaimed novel of the same name by Gu Byeong Mo, the film delivers a gripping tale of conflict between two assassins from different generations.

The story centers on Hornclaw, a legendary contract killer who has been active for 40 years. Now in her sixties, she faces a serious threat from a young and determined assassin named Bullfight. Although Bullfight once saw Hornclaw as someone who had shown him kindness, a misunderstanding has shattered their bond. As Hornclaw begins to lose her memory, she no longer remembers Bullfight—or the reason behind his relentless pursuit.

The intense emotional and physical battle between the two killers forms the heart of The Old Woman with the Knife. With strong psychological and thriller elements, the film explores themes of memory, regret, and survival in old age.

Backed by a star-studded cast, the film brings even more promise. Lee Hye Young plays Hornclaw, the aging but still-dangerous assassin. Her rival, Bullfight, is portrayed by Kim Sung Cheol.

Supporting roles include Kim Moo Yeol as Ryu, Si Ah as young Hornclaw (Seol Hwa), Yeon Woo Jin as Dr. Kang, Jung Hyun Joon as young Bullfight, Kim Kang Woo as Mr. Son, and Jo Han Chul as Bae Jong Seon.

Directed by Min Kyu Dong, the film wrapped production in mid-2024 and is now ready for theatrical release.

Although there is no official word yet on international screenings—especially in Indonesia—audiences are already buzzing with excitement thanks to the film’s unique story and talented ensemble. The Old Woman with the Knife is expected to be one of the most notable Korean films of 2025.
