As we all know, anime and manga are a form of art by the Japanese. Manga is a term for Japanese comic book and anime is a term Japanese cartoon. Although the two are made by the Japanese, do you know that Indonesia appears in both works?

1. Smash!
Not the boyband smash, but Smash! is a manga published in 2006-2010 in Japan. The manga is about a boy that loves playing badminton. A legendary Indonesian badminton athlete is mentioned in the manga. Yup! Taufik Hidayah. In one of the matches, the name Taufik Hidayah is mentioned as one of the badminton legends. Awesome!
2. RahXephon
This anime may sound foreign to you. RahXephone is a classic mecha anime like Gundam. The anime has an Indonesian character named Elvy Hadhiyat! Elvy is a great mecha pilot from Indonesia. Thanks to her talent in piloting the mecha, Elvy is called Bunga Mawar or Rose in Indonesian.
3. Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple
Out of the two titles before, Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple is the work that mentioned Indonesia the most. There are two characters in this martial art animanga, Radin and Silcardo Jenazad. Both characters are world-renowned Pencak silat practitioners.
Yup! Pencak silat is a martial art from Indonesia. Their clothes and skills are also named i Indonesian.

4. Shokugeki no Soma
Shokugeki no Soma is a cooking animanga. To fit the theme, one of the Indonesian food ingredients appears in the animanga, tempe. In one of the cooking battles, one of the characters uses tempe as his ingredient. The animanga also mentioned how tempe is first made 400 years ago.
5. Jormungand
There’s another anime that mentioned Indonesia, the title is Jormingand. In one of the episodes, the main character is in Jakarta. We can see a lot of Indonesia elements such as nasi goreng, bajaj, and many writings in Indonesian.
6. Hajime no Ippo: Rising
The boxing animanga has an Indonesian character named Wally. Wally is a featherweight boxer that wins a lot of national titles. Thanks to his talent, Wally is predicted to become a great boxer from Indonesia in the future.
Wally once fought the main character, Makunouchi Ippo. unfortunately, Wally lost. Not just that, there’s another Indonesian boxer named Papaya Dachiu, a lightweight champion.
Turns out Indonesia is quite famous, even mentioned in several animanga. We have to be proud as an Indonesian!
