For some time now, Team Liquid PH (TLPH) has been facing a major roster dilemma. The loss of "The Filipino Sniper" Kiel "OHEB" Soriano, the emergence of young Indonesian star Sultan "AeronnShikii" Muhammad, and the rise of Dave "Teddy" Viana have sparked much speculation, even in the first and second weeks of MPL PH Season 17. Team Liquid PH's failure at the M7 World Championship has sparked speculation regarding internal issues within the team heading into MPL PH Season 17.
The arrival of AeronnShikii, the second Indonesian import player in MPL PH Season 17, initially garnered significant attention. However, that attention has slowly faded as Team Liquid PH announced that AeronnShikii would not be appearing in MPL PH Season 17 due to pending administrative issues. This turmoil is compounded by the emergence of Teddy, who is believed to be replacing AeronnShikii on Team Liquid PH. So, how will management resolve all these issues? Read on for the full review below.
AeronnShikii's Arrival at Team Liquid PH Was Not Without Reason
Team Liquid PH also explained the reason for bringing in AeronnShikii. For your information, AeronnShikii is still part of Team Liquid ID, although he wasn't very active in Season 16. Ultimately, due to a lack of other viable options, TLPH brought in AeronnShikii as Oheb's replacement for MPL PH Season 17. "With no available tier 1 Gold Laners in the Philippines on that timeline, we looked outside PH and brought in AeronnShikii. He had other offers. He chose us. From the first day in scrims, he showed up and showed out. The caliber was exactly what we were looking for."
"The problem was timing. We announced him before we had full clarity on when his pending administrative requirements would be resolved. That was a mistake we own. When we finally got clarity, the range was anywhere from mid-season to the start of playoffs. That kind of uncertainty is something we could not build around. Not because of anything AeronnShikii did wrong, but because we needed a complete roster from Day 1. Starting MPL without our Gold Laner affects our standing, limits what we can develop during the regular season, and cuts into our EWC preparation. We could not do that to the team, or honestly, to AeronnShikii either. He deserved to be somewhere he could play."
"He is leaving the bootcamp now. We have been working closely with him on what comes next, and we are in serious talks to make sure he lands well. We will share more on that soon. He showed us a lot, and we respect him for it."
Teddy's Promotion News
Following up on AeronnShikii, Team Liquid PH management has apparently found a solution to the problem. The team still has a viable option, with young star Teddy, also a Gold Laner, deemed worthy of replacing Aeronn. "We are genuinely excited about Teddy. He came up through our MDL system, and earning a spot on the main roster is not easy. He went through the whole process. He earned it. We believed in him, and we hope you will too."
Team Liquid PH's Final Decision Regarding AeronnShikii and Teddy
Ultimately, the team made the final decision regarding the player swap between AeronnShikii and Teddy. The team officially announced the player swap between Teddy and Santi Sucre (Roamer), with Santi being transferred to the MDL Team Liquid Academy PH squad. "We know there are questions about moves we have made, in both Indonesia and the Philippines. Why certain players. Why change the coaching staff."
"We will not go into the specifics behind individual decisions. Not because we do not want to be honest with you, but because speaking on those situations means speaking for people who deserve to tell their own story. Every situation has more than one side. What we can say is that the approach has been consistent. In Indonesia, we were the first of the top three organizations to win MPL with a roster built entirely on rookies. In the Philippines, the decisions that drew the most criticism ended up producing our strongest results. We understand that does not make the uncertainty easier when you are living through it."
Moving Forward
TLPH management reaffirmed their commitment to improving their future. The roster issue was declared resolved, and the team asked for fans' continued support and continued support in their efforts in MPL PH Season 17. "We are committed to doing better. Not just in competition, but in how we communicate with you. You should not have to piece things together from rumors and speculation. When we can share something, we will."
"To every fan who supports Team Liquid, online or in the stands, here in PH and everyone in the world: thank you. Your energy, your voices, your belief in this team is what keeps us going. We are going to get you that trophy. Always," concluded the team management.
The following is the complete Team Liquid PH roster in MPL PH S17:

- Alston “Sanji” Pablico - Midlaner
