Representatives from Malaysia Team SMG faced RRQ Akira from Brazil in the final match of Group Stage M5 World Championship (6/12). Team SMG is strengthened by SaSa who is a former ONIC player in MPL ID. With the Bo3 system, Team SMG managed to beat RRQ Akira with a score of 2-1.

Team SMG Drags RRQ Akira to Elimination in the Group Stage of the M5 World Championship

Team SMG fought RRQ Akira in the group stage without any ambition. Because Team SMG is guaranteed to not qualify from the group stage after being defeated by Fire Flux Esports and Blacklist International in the previous two matches.

However, playing without any burden turned out to make SaSa et al appear on fire. In game 1, Team SMG was able to silence RRQ Akira. However, RRQ Akira was able to respond in game 2.

Game 3 was fierce. RRQ Akira almost beat Team SMG. However, Team SMG was still strong until finally turning things around and emerging as winners.

With this result, Team SMG dragged RRQ Akira into elimination. Fire Flux and Blacklist were confirmed to qualify for Knockout Stage M5.
