Jiraiya is undeniably a fan favorite character in the Naruto franchise. Viewers loved him even more for being a mentor and father figure to Naruto. He was the one who taught Naruto his signature Rasengan, as well as demonstrated the technique in performing summoning Jutsu.
Above all, he has guided Naruto to become a proper ninja. When he finally met his death at the hands of Pain, many fans were devastated. However, Jiraiya's death was not in vain. The code that he wrote with the last of his strength eventually fell into the hands of those who could decipher it and the information contained in it helped defeat Pain.
Moreover, the seeds he had sown all these years had finally borne bountiful results. Through Jiraiya and his teachings Naruto was able to persuade Nagato to abandon his horrific ideals which ultimately prompted the villain to use his life force to revive all of Konoha's victims.
But different from the others, Jiraiya's body remained invisible. This is considered one of Masashi Kishimoto's best decisions. The following is a discussion of Naruto's theory.
What is the Fate of Jiraiya's Body?
Jiraiya died during Konoha's fight with Akatsuki. He undertook his own investigation to investigate the true identity of the Akatsuki leader, Pain. Jiraiya discovered that there was not just one Pain but six of them. He also discovered that controlling them was none other than Nagato, one of his former students who also possessed the Rinnegan.
However, to ensure this, Jiraiya had to put his life on the line. He manages to find out the truth, though ultimately fails to escape. All he could do was write a coded message on the old toad's back and send it back to Konoha.
Right after sending the message, Jiraiya was attacked by all six Pains. The attack sent him in and also sent his body into the depths of the ocean. Because of this, neither Kabuto nor Nagato could use his body. Kabuto even expressed his disappointment, stating that retrieving Jiraiya had become impossible due to the depths of the sea. Jiraiya's body has been resting there ever since, peaceful and undisturbed.
Worth a Peaceful Death
Jiraiya's body deep in the ocean is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to serving his village and the betterment of his students. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best way to honor someone's memory is to let them rest in peace.
Leaving Jiraiya's body in the ocean might not have been the most ideal funeral a shinobi had hoped for, but it did prevent evil forces from bringing them back to life. The idea of fallen soldiers' bodies being used as pawns by enemies has been a recurring theme in the Naruto franchise through Edo Tensei.
Jiraiya's body in particular could have been a valuable asset to some of the villains in the franchise, but by leaving his body far out in the ocean, Jiraiya's legacy and memory were protected from desecration.
