DG Cheat is a special segment from Dunia Games that features influencers on Instagram Live hosted by Punipun. In DG Cheat Eps. 8, we featured one of the well-known casters in Indonesia, Riantoro Yogi Saputra, better known as Bro Pasta.

Bro Pasta is a seasoned caster who has been around the esports scene for a long time, especially in the PUBG Mobile scene. So, how did Bro Casta begin his journey as a caster? Without further ado, let’s get into it!

His Early Days as a Caster

Bro Pasta has always been known as a highly talkative person, especially when he plays PC games. Aware of this trait, he decided to start a career as a caster. Aside from that, he also had someone who supported him during his early days, Yudi ‘justincase’ Anggi, the Dota 2 caster -- who’s also one of his friends at the internet cafe.

"I became a caster because I was so chatty when I play PC games. I’d always talk (during the game). So, I eventually got interested in making a career as a caster, and Yudi "justincase" Anggi actually had an influence on that.

He’s the first who told me to become a caster, (he said) I’d make money from it. When I started, I only received a “thank you” -- instead of making real money. It happened sometimes in my early days," Bro Pasta said.

The Origin of the Name Bro Pasta

Bro Pasta revealed that there’s no particular meaning to his nickname. The word “Pasta” came across his mind in a rather random coincidence. When he was playing a game, he saw a truck with the word “pasta” written on its side. At that moment, he casually chose that word as part of his in-game nickname.

"It doesn’t have any meaning. A lot of people ask me about this. Back then, gamers didn’t go through a complicated thought process to come up with their nicknames. If not Greek (names), big historical figures, or admirals.

Or, for example, if you just happen to see the word "Telkomsel", you may take it as your nickname. Back then, that’s how I come up with “Bro Pasta”. I got the nickname when I was playing Dota and looked out the window. I saw a truck with the word "pasta" on its side, then I made it my nickname. It’s that simple," he said.

His Reason to Switch from Mobile Legends to PUBG Mobile

Some of you may be wondering why Bro Pasta switch to PUBG Mobile from Mobile Legends? Responding to the question, Bro Pasta said that it’s because he’s never got contacted again by Moonton. The last collaboration he did with Moonton was during the first Mobile Legends world championship, the M1.

"As for my reason for switching from Mobile Legends to PUBG Mobile, I don’t think I can give you the answer as the question should be directed at Moonton. Why Moonton never calls me again," he said with a laugh.

"But, Alhamdulillah, I got a collaboration with Moonton at the M1, the first Mobile Legends world championship," he added.

His Ups and Downs as a Caster

As a seasoned caster, Bro Pasta had experienced some good and bad things throughout his career. According to him, the great thing about being a caster is that it allows him to work according to his passion. Aside from that, he also enjoys the opportunity of meeting some of the biggest figures in the gaming industry.

"The great thing is we can work according to our passion. Because, as a gamer, our job involves games, sharing our thoughts about the matches, and making money by doing so. And, we can get to know many people, for example, meeting the people from Dunia Games, I get to know Puni. So, it’s nice as you can expand your network," he said.

As for the negative sides, he said that he gets criticized by the audience. This puts him in a dilemma where he feels awry.

"The bad thing is that sometimes you’ll be put in a dilemma. For example, when I’m doing my job, talking about the game, (the audience) would say "the caster talks too much, just shut up!", but when we’re not talking, "can the caster give his comments?". So, it can make you feel awry sometimes," Bro Pasta revealed.

According to him, you won’t be able to satisfy everyone -- as everyone has their own preference. However, he also listens to the criticisms he receives from the audience as a lesson.

His Previous Jobs

Before being a caster, Bro Pasta had other job experiences in the esports scene. He used to work in HR, as a Project Manager, and even a Talent Manager.

"I used to work in HR, I used to be a Project Manager, a Talent Manager, that’s all. And they’re all still in the esports scene," Bro Pasta said.
