Revealed! Apparently, Boruto’s eye is neither Byakugan nor Tenseigan!
Apparently, Boruto’s eye power is officially not referred to as Byakugan or Tenseigan! Find out the answer here!

The fans of Naruto and Boruto anime must know that the son of the Seventh Hokage has a unique dojutsu -- similar to Byakugan and Tenseigan, but with a slightly different ability. Boruto’s dojutsu will be activated automatically when Boruto focused his vision on someone or certain object, as seen on the opening scene of the first episode of Boruto, he will be able to control it when he confronts Kawaki.
You must be wondering, “Is it Byakugan, Tenseigan, Cekidotgan, or new jutsu?" And your question will be answered today!
Chengxi Huang, one of the animators of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime series recently drew Boruto cleaning his right eye using an eye drop on a Weibo and wrote “Jogan” which means Pure Eye on the caption.
Along with the picture, the animator stated that the dojutsu that Boruto has is not Byakugan or Tenseigan, but officially referred to as “Jogan”!
Huang then explained that Boruto’s dojutsu is related to the Otsutsuki clan’s dimension and its ability is the combination of Byakugan and equivalent of Naruto/Nine Tail Beast’s ability to sense negative emotions.
Here are some of Jogan’s abilities that have appeared in Boruto anime and “officially” confirmed by Huang:
Allows Boruto to see the visible changes in one’s chakra and track them through their chakra
It can clearly see the chakra pathway system and its most key point
It can also see through invisible barriers that connect between dimensions, just like when he confronted Sumire and Nue
So, it is not surprising if Hizashi and Hanabi failed to activate Boruto’s Byakugan during their training in Episode 9. It is most likely that Jogan has another way to be activated like Tenseigan that need the combination of Otsutsuki and Hyuuga chakra.
In addition, the ability of Jogan also explains why the chakra seen in Boruto's eyes is only colored in black / dark purple and not the bright blue as his usual eye- because this is a combination of Naruto's ability to detect negative emotions and the ability to see chakra from the Byakugan.
It could be that this eye is formed thanks to Hagoromo and Naruto's chakra and the Hyuuga family's bloodline.
Unfortunately we still have to wait until the next episodes of Boruto anime to find out more about Jogan's abilities, because Huang himself acknowledged that Boruto's team and story writer, Ukyo Kodachi, did not yet have a clear picture for Boruto's story in the future.
Wow, the question is finally answered! What do you think? Is it getting more exciting and the potential of this little ninja is getting bigger with his new dojutsu, Jogan?
