In this throwback column, Dunia Games wants to discuss one of the Tales of series on PS1, namely Tales of Destiny. For those who like the Tales of series, there are some facts from this classic RPG that you need to know. Curious already? Take a look at the article below!

1. The First Tales of Game in English

Tales of Destiny is the second game in the Tales of series to be released for PS1 after Tales of Phantasia. Uniquely, this game is the first in the series to receive an English translation or localization. Tales of Phantasia was released on December 15, 1995, Tales of Destiny was released on December 23, 1997, in Japan, while the English version was released in September next year.

2. Removed Playable Character

One thing that distinguishes the Japanese and English versions of this game is the different playable characters. In the Japanese version, Stahn's younger sister, Lilith Aileron, is a playable character, while in the English version she is unplayable. It is unknown why Lilith cannot be played in the overseas version of the game.

3. A Cameo in Tales of Eternia

Bruiser Khang is one of the supporting characters in Tales of Destiny. Interestingly, he appears as a cameo in the Tales of Eternia. Khang is one of the contestants participating in a sushi eating contest. In the English version, the name is changed to Kong the Man. Whereas in the English version, he retains the same name.

4. A Chat Feature

There is an interesting feature that only exists in the Japanese version of Tales of Destiny, namely a chat feature where certain characters can interact while on the world map. This feature is called "skit". This interesting feature is quite rare in other yet similar RPGs. Unfortunately, for unknown reasons, this feature was removed in the English version.

5. Deleted Scene

You need to know that there is a removed scene in the Japanese version, as well as new scenes that were added in the English version. In the English version, the scene where Ilene Rembrandt and Stahn Aileron are dating are removed. Also, there are several new scenes added to the English version that is absent in the Japanese version.

6. Boss in Another Tales of Game

In the Tales of Phantasia, Lilith Aileron is one of the bosses that Cress Albane can fight in the arena. If you beat her, Lilith will give you a special sword called S.D. The sword is one of the strongest pieces of equipment in the game, so make sure to get it if you play Tales of Phantasia.

7. A New Scene in the Remake

There is a new scene added in the remake version. Did you know that Bruiser Khang fell in love with someone? In the remake version, Khang falls in love with Philia Felice. That scene doesn’t exist in the vanilla version of Tales of Destiny.

8. Leonardo DiCaprio Reference

The last interesting fact about this game is Milly, one of the members of the Black Wing, thinks that Stahn is Leon DeCarppacio. The name is a parody of the famous Hollywood actor, Leonardo DiCaprio.
