If in Marvel comic they have Captain America who appears as the icon of United States, in DC comic, it was represented by Superman. In the comics, films, and animations, Superman often portrayed as the hero who upholds freedom, democracy and justice, the things that become the main value of the United States.

Considering the facts above, what happen if in an alternate dimension the baby Kal-El (Superman’s real name) didn’t fall in Smallville, Kansas, United States but instead in the Soviet Union during the Cold War? You can find the answer in the animated film Superman: Red Son that will be aired next year.

The first trailer for Superman: Red Son has aired exclusively on IGN on Tuesday (17/12) morning. In this trailer, we can see Superman’s appearance which is completely different from what we have known.

The “S” logo which has been Superman’s logo, has been replaced by the hammer and sickle logo which symbolizes the Soviet Union. Not only Superman, this film will also feature other DC superheroes such as Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern with a unique twist.

The idea of this film's storyline itself was based on the comic by Dave Johnson and Kilian Plunkett with a similar title released in 2003. In the comic version, Superman did not work as a journalist but instead became a part of the Soviet Union Military.

Besides Superman, in this comic Batman is a Soviet Union rebel, Wonder Woman is an ambassador from Themyscira for Russia, while Green Lantern is a United States air force soldier. Superman's mortal enemy, Lex Luthor also appeared, who in the Superman: Red Son comic, he is the leader of the army in the United States military.

In the Superman: Red Son universe, Superman who was born in Soviet Union has different personality and mindset. Superman’s relationship with other DC characters will be presented differently in this film.

Produced by Warner Bros, Superman: Red Son was directed by Sam Liu who previously had directed the animated film Reign of the Superman. While the film script was written by J.M. DeMatteis, the person who responsible for creating the script for Batman: Bad Blood.

The film, which will be DC's 38th animated film, is highly anticipated by the fans. Although so far they often lose in widescreen competition with MCU films, DC is known for its success in presenting interesting animated films.

The Appearance of Superman: Red Son

Outside the comics that are the source of this film’s inspiration, this is not Superman’s first appearance in Red Son version. This version of Superman has previously appeared in the famous fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Come in DLC Red Son, this game presents 20 missions set in the Red Son UNIVERSE. In addition, this DLC also presents the Red Son costume version for Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Deathstroke and also Solomon Grundy.

While in the game Batman: Arkham Origins you can use Batman’s Red Son version costume. To be able to use this costume you must first purchase the DLC Red Son.
