The KOEI Tecmo Games American and European YouTube channels posted a trailer of Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires (Shin Sangoku Musou 8 Empires) on Thursday, December 7, 2021.

Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will launch in Japan on December 23, 2021. The game will also be available in Chinese. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

KOEI Tecmo will release Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires in North America and Europe on February 15, 2022. The Standard Edition for North America and Europe will be released on a digital version only for PS5 and Steam. The physical and digital release of Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will be available for PS4, Xbox Series X|S , Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

PS4, Switch, and Steam versions of Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires game in the European region will get a 20th Anniversary BOX. This package includes a book, a set of character cards for the game's 94 characters, and two original soundtrack CDs.

Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will also have a season pass that includes the latest weapons, customization items, and additional castles. Like previous versions of the "Empires" games in the Dynasty Warriors franchise, Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires will include detailed customization modes.

KOEI Tecmo Games also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Dynasty Warriors franchise this year. Dynasty Warriors 9 (Shin Sangoku Musou 8), the newest game released in the series, launched in February 2018. The series has also inspired many spin-off games, including the Samurai Warriors series.
