News | 29 March
Triple H, one of the most famous athletes in WWE has officially announced his retirement from the competition. Paul Michael Levesque has gone by several names throughout his professional wrestling career, including Jean-Paul Lévesque, several iterations from the International Wrestling Federation Terra Ryzing and Hunter Hearst Helmsley before adopting the Triple H name.
As a leading figure in the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression era at WWF/E, Triple H's feud with The Rock, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Mr. McMahon and others are the most iconic.
Along with several Hollywood appearances, the superstar continued to wrestle after reaching his executive position despite his growing time in the ring. Despite retiring, Triple H won his 14th and final championship by defeating Dean Ambrose at the 2016 Royal Rumble and earning the WWE World Heavyweight title.
He then lost the belt to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 32. After several years in the ring, Triple H suffered a chest injury at the 2018 Crown Jewel event that required surgery.
Despite his recovery, in September 2021 he developed heart problems and ended up not appearing in WWE for months. WWE shared the official announcement that Triple H is retiring from wrestling following an interview with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN's First Take event.
In the interview, the superstar discussed the circumstances leading up to cardiac catheterization and what the experience meant for his family. Unlike his former team-mate Batista, who retired in 2019 after losing to Triple H at WrestleMania 35, Triple H retired in poor health.
