Mobile Legends officially introduced a major update in the June 2025 patch that has significantly changed the ranked experience.
One of the headline features is the mandatory role pick system, implemented at the start of matchmaking. Every player is now required to select their preferred roles before entering ranked mode.
Moonton has taken this step to resolve one of the most classic problems that often disrupts games: role clashes.
A More Structured Ranked Format
Based on the updated screen that now appears before entering ranked mode, players are presented with the five core roles: EXP Lane, Jungle, Mid Lane, Roam, and Gold Lane. Each player must choose two preferred roles before hitting the Confirm button and joining the lobby.
This means the matchmaking system has matched players based on their selected roles, drastically reducing the chance of role overlaps such as double junglers or having no roamer at all.
In addition, the estimated matchmaking time is now displayed more clearly, providing greater transparency and giving players a better sense of how quickly they can expect to enter a well-structured match.
A Long-Awaited Fix, Executed Properly
Previously, many Mobile Legends players had been forced to compromise or fight over their desired roles during draft pick. These situations often escalated into internal conflicts, toxic chats, or even AFKs when someone didn’t get their preferred position.
Now, with this cleaner role pick system—similar to what has been implemented in other major MOBAs—Moonton has proven that they have listened to their community’s long-standing feedback. Players no longer need to spam "MID PLEASE" or "JG FAST" in the draft lobby, as their roles have already been locked in.
Hopes for a Balanced META and Matchmaking
With this system in place, players are expected to focus more on mastering one or two main roles. This will directly impact gameplay quality, rotation discipline, and decision-making in-game based on proper team composition and lane identity.
Not only will it benefit casual players, but this feature could also significantly improve the quality of games in higher tiers, where role clarity and synergy matter most.
The June 2025 patch has delivered one of the most important updates in the ranked system of Mobile Legends. With mandatory role pick now enforced before matchmaking, role clashes should soon become a thing of the past.
The only question now is whether players will use this feature wisely—to build better chemistry and execute deeper strategies in every match.
