When Apple released the iPhone 15 Pro Series, they claimed that this newest device had the ability to play a series of AAA games, even without relying on the cloud. But, what is the reality? A YouTuber named Vincent Zhong managed to prove this by testing the iPhone 15 Pro's ability to play Resident Evil Village.
Vincent Zhong first tried playing directly on his iPhone 15 Pro Series. He attached a controller to the device and, from the video he shared on his YouTube channel on Saturday (22/9/2023), it seemed everything went smoothly. Zhong feels comfortable controlling Ethan Winters, the protagonist in this zombie game by Capcom.
After being satisfied playing Resident Evil Village on the iPhone, Zhong switched to a bigger screen. Using a USB type-C port, Zhong mirrors to an additional monitor. In the video, he enabled HDR mode and set the screen resolution to 1560x720, with the frame rate locked at 30 fps. To control his character, Zhong uses DualSense. Although he stated that the quality was not as good as the console, overall, he found the gaming experience to be quite satisfactory.
The iPhone 15 Pro Series' ability to run AAA games can be attributed to the latest chip called the A17 Pro. This chip has been stealing attention since its announcement, with performance claimed to be 10% faster than the previous year's variant. This chip is also equipped with a two times faster Neural Engine, which supports artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in the iPhone.
This allows users to enjoy faster text transcription, more accurate photo background blurring, and increased graphical detail in video games. Apple even dares to claim that the A17 Pro is the most advanced chip in any cellphone, even capable of handling ray tracing technology, an extraordinary feat for a smartphone.
Apart from Resident Evil Village, the iPhone 15 Pro Series is also reportedly capable of running other games, including Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding, and Assassin's Creed Mirage. However, currently only two titles can be played, namely Resident Evil and Death Stranding, while Assassin's Creed Mirage is scheduled to be released in the first half of 2024.
The following is a video clip uploaded by Zhong regarding the iPhone 15 Pro that you can watch:
