Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii, or usually known as Wotakoi, is a Romantic Comedy anime about two otakus in love.

If you are a weeaboo and still single, the anime can be a reference when you are looking for a partner with the same hobby. Besides the comedy, the romance story in Wotakoi will make you feel giddy with the relationship between Narumi and Hirotaka.

Wotakoi was aired in spring 2018 (April -  June) and it was 11 episodes long. The anime was adapted from the manga with the same title by Fujita-sensei.

Wotakoi Synopsis

Sleeping through four alarms, an energetic girl named Narumi Momose was running so she can arrive on time on her first day at work. She promised herself to hide her secret from her co-worker, a secret that she is an otaku and fujoshi.

But her effort was in vain after meeting Hirotaka Nifuji, her old friend from middle school. Narumi was determined to keep her secret, but Hirotaka spills everything by blatantly asking her if Narumi will attend Summer Comiket or not. Hearing the conversation, two individuals, Hanako Koyanagi and Tarou Kabakura, revealed that they are otaku too.

That night, Narumi and Hirotaka went for drinks and talk about each other after finally meeting. Narumi complained about her ex-boyfriend that breaks up with her because she is a fujoshi, Hirotaka advised her to date an otaku, him to be specific. Hirotaka promised to be by her side, supporting her, and help her farm rare drops in Monster Hunter. Surprised by the confession, Narumi accepts Hirotaka. The two otakus started dating and their romance story began.

A Giddy and Hilarious RomCom Story

Wotakoi maybe your common RomCom anime. But the story was intriguing and entertaining. Go and watch Wotakoi. You are guaranteed to giggle when watching Wotakoi.

There many cameos from other anime and manga in Wotakoi - possibly one of the most hilarious moments in the series. When watching the anime, you may come across characters from Sailormoon, Dragon Ball, and other animes in the form of figures, posters, ads, and cosplay.

Besides the main couple, Narumi and Hirotaka, Wotakoi also has a second couple that is just as hilarious. They are Koyanagi and Kabakura. 

Narumi and Hirotaka pair have a balanced emotion: Narumi is a happy and energetic girl, while Hirotaka is calm and rarely shows his emotion. The complete opposite of Koyanagi and Kabakura that always fight each other but still deeply in love. Both of them are tsundere. But in the end, Kabakura always ends up giving in to Koyanagi.

Hirotaka Nifuji 

• Seiyu: Kento Itou

Hirotaka is Narumi’s otaku friend and boyfriend. He loves Narumi since their childhood. Hirotaka admits that he is an otaku gamer that spends his free time playing games. Unlike Narumi, Hirotaka doesn’t care if others find out about his otaku side. Hirotaka is quite handsome and had many suitors, but he never cared.

Narumi Momose 

• Seiyu: Arisa Date

Narumi is an otaku, fujoshi, loves playing otome games (games with handsome boys), and idol. She blames her otaku side for making her life hard and tried to keep everything a secret, especially at work place. Narumi is Hirotaka’s childhood friend and girlfriend.

Tarou Kabakura

• Seiyu: Tomokazu Sugita

Tarou is Hirotaka’s co-worker and he is not that big of an otaku. He love things related to heroes and bishojo (anime or manga with beautiful girls). Tarou is dating Hanako Koyanagi.

Hanako Koyanagi

• Seiyu: Miyuki Sawashiro

Hanako is Narumi’s senpai in the office. Hanako is secretly a famous cosplayer who often cosplays male characters. She loves gaming and reading yaoi manga. Hanako is dating Tarous Kabakura.
