The intense match between RRQ Hoshi and ONIC Esports sparked considerable debate regarding the actions of roamer Nicky "Kiboy" Pontonuwu, who was seen vocally expressing himself towards the RRQ team. This incident drew mixed reactions from fans within the competitive MLBB community.
Kiboy is recognized for his spirited demeanor. His on-stage shouting is likely meant to boost focus and enthusiasm, but it seems to have been misinterpreted. His vocalizations were not intended to insult his opponents.
In an interview with Dunia Games, Kiboy clarified his behavior during the match against RRQ Hoshi. He mentioned that shouting has become a habitual part of his competitive play, although he adjusts his volume based on the situation.
He also emphasized that he shares a positive rapport with the players from RRQ Hoshi. As for the reactions from netizens, he remains unfazed, noting that shouting has simply become a natural part of his competitive experience.
“I’ve been shouting for a long time, but there are specific moments for it. The intensity varies depending on the game's situation. As a pro player, it’s something we’re accustomed to, and I’m also close with Idok,” Kiboy explained.
“I know the other players well, so their opinions don’t really affect me. I’m not too concerned about what netizens think, as it’s been a while since I’ve paid attention to that. Ultimately, whether we win or lose, it’s all part of the fun,” he added.
XINNN Supports Kiboy Regarding the Shouting Incident Involving RRQ Hoshi
Yesaya "XINNN" Wowiling, a talent from RRQ and a former player for RRQ Hoshi, recently addressed the controversy surrounding Kiboy's vocal reactions during matches against RRQ Hoshi. Having known Kiboy for many years, XINNN shared that this behavior is quite typical for him.
In fact, XINNN revealed that Kiboy was once his junior during their school days in Manado.
"Recently, Kiboy has attracted quite a few critics. Despite his loud demeanor during games, that's just who he is," XINNN remarked. "To give you some context, he was my junior in school, and he was probably three grades ahead of me," he added.
XINNN noted that Kiboy's tendency to shout during MLBB tournaments has been a long-standing trait.
"I remember a time during a school tournament when he was really going off at me. Here I was, someone who had won in coffee shops, and Kiboy was yelling at me. I had to warn him, 'watch out, guys,'" XINNN recalled.
XINNN's comments seem to serve as a defense for Kiboy, highlighting that this is simply part of his competitive nature. He emphasized that Kiboy's actions are not rooted in negativity or hostility, but rather are just part of the dynamics of competition.
